Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the task by identifying problems associated with lack of sleep, such as a weak immune system, low productivity, stress, and anxiety, and by suggesting solutions like exercise and consistent sleep schedules. However, the length requirement of 250 words is not met, as the response contains only 237 words. Consequently, the ideas, particularly the examples and explanations, are somewhat limited and under-developed. While the writer outlines relevant points, they tend to make brief generalized statements without sufficient expansion. For instance, the mention of a colleague experiencing stress and anxiety is very brief. Due to the under-length penalty and the under-development of ideas, this task response aligns with a Band 5.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text has a discernible overall structure, incorporating an introduction, body paragraphs addressing problems and solutions, and a brief conclusion. However, paragraphing is somewhat irregular, with lowercase letters starting sentences and paragraphs (e.g., 'Nowadays, lack of sleeping...', 'i will discuss...'). Cohesive devices are used, but they are often repetitive, mechanical, or awkwardly applied, such as starting multiple sentences with 'To paraphrase this thought' or 'To explain this view'. Logical progression is sometimes disrupted by repetitive phrasing and abrupt transitions between ideas. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall organization and flow reflect Band 5 characteristics, where cohesion can be faulty or mechanical.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses a minimally adequate vocabulary for the task, touching upon relevant terms such as 'immune system', 'productivity', 'concentration', and 'electronic devices'. However, lexical range is limited, and there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'lack of sleeping' instead of 'lack of sleep', 'law energy' instead of 'low energy', and 'creates stress and anxiety in his brain'. Repetition of common words like 'sleep', 'bedtime', and 'less' is frequent. These errors and the limited vocabulary range place this response squarely in the Band 5 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The text features a mix of simple and attempted complex sentence structures, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are frequent punctuation and capitalization errors throughout the text, including lowercase letters at the beginning of sentences and for the personal pronoun 'i' (e.g., 'it can affect...', 'i will discuss...', 'for example,Students...'). Grammatical inaccuracies include 'lack of sleeping is becoming common', 'reason i would like to dissect about', and 'maintain a healthy lifestyle and should fix daily routine'. While meaning is generally understandable despite these issues, the high frequency of basic structural errors keeps the performance at a Band 5.
