Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is argued that, in recent years people are having the difficulties to get enough sleep. There are many reasons to cause this issue, which I will explain in the upcoming essay, and will also give some solutions to overcome this problem.

One of the main reason of having a disturbed sleep cycle is phone. Majority of the people have habit to use the smartphone before go to bed, experts says the raditions emitts from it disturbs the sleep cycle. Moreover, the best time suggested by the scientists to have a sleep is betweem 10 pm to 6 am. However, the addiction of scrolling the social media is affecting the time table, for instance many individuals go to bed at exact 10 pm but they start using social media apps to divert their mind from the workload, and always miss the timeline. Because of this they get less time to sleep which cause a negative impact on their mental and physical health.

The best solution to overcome this problem is meditation. Everyone should do medidation before and after the sleep. It enhance the conecentration level and keep the mind relax in all the situations, and when the mind is relaxed eventually you will get a good sleep. Furthermore, in the free time people should replace the phone with books, as this will neutral the danger of raditions and will increase the overall knowledge.

To conclude, although in this modern world the phones are become a vital part, meditation and reading books are essential to maintain the healthy life and sleep cycle.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the task prompt, identifying smartphone usage as a primary cause of sleep deprivation and suggesting meditation and reading as solutions. However, the first part of the prompt asking 'What problems can lack of sleep cause?' is only partially answered, as the student briefly mentions 'a negative impact on their mental and physical health' without extending or elaborating on specific problems such as reduced productivity, mood swings, or impaired concentration. Similarly, the introduction misstates the prompt by saying 'people are having the difficulties to get enough sleep'. While the main ideas are relevant, they tend to be under-developed, placing the response securely within the Band 5 to 6 range. Because the prompt asks for problems (plural) and solutions (plural), and only one main problem and two solutions are somewhat superficially addressed, it aligns best with Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays a basic overall structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which satisfies the fundamental requirements of paragraphing. However, progression is somewhat disjointed due to awkward transitional phrases and logical leaps. For instance, the transition from discussing smartphones to introducing meditation feels abrupt without a proper bridge connecting the consequences of sleep deprivation to the proposed solutions. Furthermore, cohesive devices are sometimes misused or repetitive, such as 'One of the main reason' and 'Furthermore'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, as seen in the sentence 'raditions emitts from it disturbs the sleep cycle', where the pronoun reference is imprecise. These cohesion issues and mechanical referencing flaws limit the score to Band 5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday concepts related to smartphones, social media, and meditation. However, there are frequent errors in word choice, morphology, and spelling that detract from the writing. Examples include 'raditions' instead of radiation, 'emitts' instead of emits, 'betweem' instead of between, 'conecentration' instead of concentration, and 'neutral' instead of neutralize. Additionally, collocations are occasionally unnatural, such as 'have habit to use' instead of 'have a habit of using'. While the intended meaning usually remains clear, these noticeable lexical errors and the lack of less common vocabulary prevent the response from achieving a Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety through conditional-like structures and relative clauses, such as 'when the mind is relaxed eventually you will get a good sleep'. However, control over grammar is weak, and frequent structural errors occur throughout the text. Noticeable errors include missing articles ('have difficulties to get'), incorrect prepositions ('before go to bed'), subject-verb agreement issues ('phones are become'), and awkward tense shifts. For example, 'there are many reasons to cause this issue, which I will explain... and will also give' contains repetitive modal usage. These frequent grammatical errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect the characteristics of a Band 5 performance.
