Student answer (Band 6.5)

Having adequate sleep is a challenge for many people in the modern era. Therfore, the complain about less sleep are usually common among inidvidauls. Although several reasons can be considered behind the sleeplessness, from my standpoint, workplace competition and overconsumption of technology are the major cause of lack of sleep among people esepcially, youngsters. However, by maintaining a healthy work-life balance and changing the lifestyle, these issues can be addressed effectively.

One of the major reasons behind sleeplessness is distrupted sleep schdules due to competition in job market. In order to cope with the increasing workplace competition, numerous workers tend to over do themsleves by either performing overtime or by doing night shifts. This not only results in less family time but increases the chances of stress and anxiety among them. Consequently, the stress and anxiety often causees sleeplessness issue among them. Another significant consideration is overuse of technological gadgets. The young generation is very prone to have prolonged screen time that sometimes, makes them lost the count of time. To cite a example, younsters often watch shows or movies on platforms such as Netflix and Prime Video and stay awake till 3 or 4 am. As a result, their sleep cycle distrupts completely.

Nonetheless, these issues can be easily resolved by certain alterations in individuals' lifestyle. To illustrate, by making a fix schedule for screentime and family time , people can not only avoid exessive consumption of digital devices but also can spend some quality time with their loved ones and with themsleves as well. What's more, a proper work-life balance can also help individulas to have family time along with proper sleep. For example, if one knows how to manage their woork so they can meet their work deadlines along with managing their leisure activities, the stress levels in them reduces significantly making them have proper sleep.

Taking everything into account, I finally conclude that while professional competition and prolonged screentime are reasons behind the sleeplessness, it can easily addressed by effective time management and work-life balance.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the task, examining both the problems associated with lack of sleep and potential solutions. The student develops a clear position throughout the essay, attributing issues to workplace competition and technology overuse while offering constructive solutions such as lifestyle changes and better work-life balance. Ideas are extended with relevant examples, such as watching shows on Netflix until late at night and managing job deadlines. Although the prompt asks about lack of sleep generally, the student appropriately narrows the focus to youngsters and workers to build well-developed, coherent arguments. The response meets the requirements of the task fully, displaying a well-supported and clear discussion. Overall, this performance aligns closely with the Band 7 level descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The writer uses standard paragraphing effectively, with each body paragraph dedicated to a distinct aspect of the prompt: problems in the first body paragraph and solutions in the second. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'Consequently', 'Another significant consideration', and 'Nonetheless'. However, there are some minor mechanical issues with cohesion, and referencing is occasionally slightly repetitive or less fluid. Paragraph transitions are evident, guiding the reader smoothly from the introduction through the main body to the final conclusion. These features place the essay firmly in the Band 6.5 to 7.0 range, warranting a solid Band 7.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, allowing for some flexibility and precision with terms such as 'workplace competition', 'overconsumption', and 'work-life balance'. Less common items are attempted, though occasional word choice errors and spelling mistakes occur, such as 'Therfore' for therefore, 'complain' instead of complaints, 'inidvidauls' for individuals, and 'distrupted' for disrupted. Despite these spelling and morphological inaccuracies, the vocabulary is adequate to convey the intended meaning without impeding communication. The student attempts to use appropriate phrasing for discussion essays, which supports a Band 6 score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating the ability to construct conditional-style or multi-clause sentences, as seen in 'if one knows how to manage their woork so they can meet their work deadlines...'. However, there are several grammatical and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'Therfore, the complain about less sleep are usually common among inidvidauls', 'over do themsleves', 'causees', and 'a example'. Punctuation errors also appear, such as unnecessary spaces before commas. While these errors do not impede communication, their frequency prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. The grammar is characteristic of Band 6 performance.
