Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the problems associated with lack of sleep and the solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as discussing lethargy and the impact of electronic gadgets, followed by suggestions like routines and reducing screen time. However, some points are slightly repetitive or under-developed, such as the initial definition of insomnia and the brief mention of body weakness. While a clear position and structure are maintained, the development of ideas stops short of reaching the depth required for a higher band, placing this performance solidly at Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is divided into a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, showing an overall logical arrangement. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Commencing with', 'Consequently', and 'Furthermore', although some transitions feel a bit mechanical or awkward, like 'due to have a lethargic schedule everyday leads to'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate problems from solutions. Referencing is generally clear, though occasional clumsy phrasing affects the smooth progression of ideas, resulting in a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'dearth of sleep', 'eradicated', and 'technological gadgets'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocations, such as 'sleep disorder' missing an article ('a sleep disorder'), 'wouldnot', 'errupt' (erupt instead of disrupt), and 'neagtive effect'. Spelling and morphological slips occur ('beedroom'), but these do not impede overall communication, reflecting the characteristics of Band 5.5 to 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures like 'the more people become active... the more they get tired'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward structures, such as sentence fragments ('Like Insomnia, it is sleep disorder'), subject-verb agreement issues ('people not be able to'), and incorrect preposition use ('waste their time to use'). Punctuation errors also appear. These errors persist throughout the text, though they rarely impede the reader's understanding, fitting the Band 5.5 descriptors well.
