Student answer (Band 6.5)
Lately, a lot of individuals have been complaining about sleep difficulties. There are various problems associated with a lack of sleep like difficulty concentrating and fatigue. Sleep difficulties can be associated with increased usage of technology, specifically social media. So, one solution is reduce your usage of social media, especially before bedtime.
Sleep is a basic human need and it is quite essential to operate effeciently. Some issues that a person face in case of sleep deprivation are reduced focus and tiredness. It is difficult to do even mundane tasks like cooking, driving or cleaning if a person has not slept well. For example, driving a car can prove to be fatal if a person has not slept well as it increases the chances of accident which not only can injure the person driving but pedestrians or other drivers as well.
Although, there could be numerous reasons why a person might not be able to sleep properly, some studies have suggested that the recent increase in sleep difficulty is directly associated to the increased usage of technology and social media. Usage of social media is associated to release of dopamine which can make it difficult for a person to sleep. People should limit the usage of social media, at least 2 hours before bedtime which can help a person to relax which can subsequently improve the sleep quality.
In conclusion, it is extremely difficult to operate effeciently without getting enough sleep, as it gets hard to focus and concentrate. That being said, it should not be too hard to fix if a person has a habit of using social media before bedtime, they can simply reduce their social media usage which can immediately help them improve their sleep quality.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses both parts of the prompt: what problems lack of sleep can cause and what can be done about it. The student covers the causes and consequences well, discussing reduced focus, tiredness, and safety hazards such as driving accidents, as well as offering a clear solution regarding social media reduction. Ideas are well-developed with relevant examples, such as mentioning cooking, driving, and cleaning. The position is clear throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas could be extended further to reach a higher band, as some points remain slightly repetitive across body paragraphs. Overall, the prompt is fully addressed, fitting the criteria for Band 6.5 or a solid Band 7 level of task coverage.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay displays a clear overall progression. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, starting with an introduction, moving into the problems of sleep deprivation, then exploring the technological cause and solution, and finally concluding. Cohesive devices such as 'For example', 'Although', and 'In conclusion' are used appropriately to guide the reader through the arguments. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and logically. However, referencing is occasionally repetitive, and some sentences within paragraphs feel mechanically linked rather than flowing naturally. Despite these minor limitations, the logical organization and progression throughout place this text securely within the Band 7 category.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. Phrases like 'sleep deprivation', 'mundane tasks', and 'subsequently improve' show an attempt to use less common lexical items. However, there are noticeable spelling errors, such as 'effeciently' instead of 'efficiently', which occur multiple times. Word choice and collocation are generally acceptable but occasionally imprecise, such as 'associated to' instead of 'associated with'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the ideas clearly, the presence of spelling errors and a reliance on slightly repetitive phrasing prevent the response from achieving a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and concessive clauses ('Although, there could be numerous reasons...', 'if a person has not slept well'). There is good control over punctuation, and the majority of sentences are grammatically sound, allowing the message to be communicated without impediment. Some minor grammatical inaccuracies occur, such as subject-verb agreement or preposition misuse ('a person face' instead of 'a person faces', and 'associated to' rather than 'associated with'). Because complex structures are attempted and used with a reasonable degree of accuracy, the writing comfortably meets the standard for Band 6.5.
