Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this fast growing generation, a person's life has became so hectic that it affects thier day to day life. Having difficulty getting enough sleep is the most common issue in today's generation which leads to tons of problems.we will discuss the problems and how can we avoid in upcoming paragraph.

Lack of sleep can leads to numerous amount of physical and mental health issues. One major consequence of insufficient sleep is its negative impact on physical health, as the body needs adequate rest to recover and function properly. Another significant issue is low metabolism and low immune system which leads to weight gain and bloating. Furthermore, chronic sleep deprivition affects emotional well-being, causing people to become more irritable and less capable of coping with stress. Times of india has published an article written by a neurologist, in March, 2026 stating that a person's concentration gets declined by 25% due to lack of sleep which leads to students getting less grades and employees not getting thier expected output in thier work.

The most straightforward solution is to develop healthy sleeping habits, such as maintaining a consistent sleep schedule and limiting screen time before bedtime. For instance, a university student could finish studying several hours before bedtime and spend the remaining time relaxing rather than using electronic devices. Finally, people who experience persistent sleep difficulties should seek professional medical advice rather than relying solely on sleeping pills or other self-medication.

In conclusion, insufficient sleep can negatively affect people's physical health, mental performance and emotional well-being. However, maintaining healthy sleep habits, managing stress and seeking professional assistance when necessary can help people achieve better-quality sleep.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by identifying both the problems associated with lack of sleep and effective solutions. The position is clear throughout the essay. The first main body paragraph successfully outlines physical consequences such as a 'low metabolism and low immune system' alongside emotional impacts. Furthermore, the inclusion of a specific example regarding concentration decline demonstrates adequate support for the ideas. However, the introduction contains a slightly conversational and vague outline of the essay's structure, and some ideas in the body paragraphs could be slightly more extended to reach the higher bands. Overall, the task is answered satisfactorily, aligning well with the Band 6.5 or Band 7 criteria.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from the introduction through the problems and solutions to the conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating the introduction, problems, solutions, and conclusion into distinct blocks. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader, as seen with phrases like 'Another significant issue' and 'The most straightforward solution'. However, there are some flaws in cohesion and referencing, such as the missing capitalization and abrupt phrasing in 'we will discuss the problems and how can we avoid in upcoming paragraph' and occasional mechanical transitions. Therefore, the organizational framework meets the criteria for Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'insufficient sleep', 'emotional well-being', 'metabolism', and 'professional medical advice'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, though this is sometimes accompanied by spelling errors, such as 'thier' instead of 'their' and 'deprivition' instead of 'deprivation', as well as word choice inaccuracies like 'tons of problems'. While these minor errors do not impede communication, they prevent the lexical score from reaching the higher bands. The range is sufficient to convey precise meanings regarding health and lifestyle, fitting comfortably within Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures reasonably well, such as in 'people who experience persistent sleep difficulties should seek professional medical advice'. However, there are several grammatical and mechanical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Lack of sleep can leads to'), incorrect auxiliary usage ('how can we avoid in upcoming paragraph'), and punctuation errors. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but their frequency prevents the writing from achieving a Band 7. The control of grammar is moderate, aligning with the descriptors for Band 6.
