Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the problems caused by lack of sleep, such as restlessness and overstimulated minds, and suggesting solutions like mindful breaks and proper bedtime routines. The ideas presented are relevant and supported with explanations and examples, such as spending days on computers and evenings on smartphones. However, the development of ideas remains somewhat general and could be extended further to fully meet higher band criteria. For instance, the specific health consequences of sleep deprivation are not deeply explored. Nevertheless, the response covers all parts of the task adequately, aligning well with the descriptors for Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, dedicating distinct paragraphs to the introduction, problems, solutions, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal logical progression, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Moving forward'. However, some of the linking phrases are slightly mechanical or misused, such as 'Moving forward' used as a transition for a new paragraph topic rather than a temporal or progressive sequence. Referencing and paragraphing are generally sufficient, though the flow between sentences could be smoother. Overall, the organizational structure is clear, supporting a Band 6 score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting less common items such as 'overstimulated', 'hectic routine', and 'disconnect from the outer world'. However, there are notable word choice errors and awkward collocations, such as writing 'sleep challenging' instead of 'sleep challenges' or 'sleep deprivation', and 'making a appropriate daily routine' (where 'an' is needed along with slight awkwardness in phrasing). Spelling is generally accurate, but the lexical control lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. The range is sufficient to communicate meaning clearly, fitting the Band 6 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing dependent clauses introduced by 'since' and 'that'. However, there are noticeable grammatical errors and punctuation issues throughout the text. Examples include capitalization and article errors ('Since Stress can be the one of the main reason', 'stay up night', 'making a appropriate'), as well as comma splices and run-on sentences ('...smartphones that keeps them awake for long hours .For instance...'). Despite these errors, they rarely impede overall communication, and the basic sentence structures are handled reasonably well, placing the essay solidly at Band 6.
