Student answer (Band 6.0)
In these days many people have expressed that they are facing difficulties in getting proper sleep. There are two main issues this could cause, which are health issues and difficulties in balancing their life, and these problems could only be controlled by changing lifestyle.
Lack of sleep could be harmful for one's overall health. If people are struggling with sleeplessness for longer period of time, they could suffer from a long term cognitive disabilities and diseases like stress, insomnia, cancer, and anxiety. Additionally, this could also make difficult for people to balance their personal and professional life efficiently. As a result, they could lead to serious problems in their life (family misunderstandings and unable to complete a work task before the due date) as they could feel irritated and tired all the time because of improper sleep. For example, the cancer rate has increased drastically by 24% in the last two years because of insomnia, according to World Health Organization.
There are two possible things that could be done to tackle this problem. Firstly, people could try to adapt a health lifestyle. If they could stop using technical gadgets such as mobile phones, laptops, and computers at least an hour before going to bed, and could try to engage in lightweight exercise or yoga. Consequently, they could see a positive and significant change in their sleep pattern. Secondly, the government could start some workshops and awareness campaigns to promote that importance of regular sleep in their life.
In conclusion, not getting enough sleep could be harmful for someone's overall well-being by impacting their health and work-life balance negatively. This serious issue could be solved by adapting a healthy living style and the government could also contribute into this.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the problems caused by a lack of sleep and offering actionable solutions. In the first body paragraph, the student explores health issues and work-life balance impacts, supported by an example, although the statistic provided ('cancer rate has increased drastically by 24%') appears somewhat manufactured. The second body paragraph outlines solutions such as lifestyle changes and government awareness campaigns. The position is clear throughout, and the ideas are generally well-extended, though some minor over-generalisation exists. Overall, the task is successfully fulfilled, aligning well with the requirements of a Band 6.5 to 7.0, and is best placed at Band 6.5 due to the minor limitations in idea development and realism of examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organised into an introduction, two body paragraphs addressing the prompt's two questions respectively, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions, such as 'Additionally', 'As a result', 'Firstly', and 'Secondly'. However, some of these devices are slightly mechanical or strained, such as 'There are two possible things that could be done', which impacts the natural flow. Referencing is mostly clear, though occasional minor slip-ups in phrasing detract from seamless progression. The level matches the Band 6 descriptors well, showing a coherent overall arrangement with some faulty or mechanical cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'sleeplessness', 'cognitive disabilities', 'awareness campaigns', and 'well-being'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text. For instance, the writer uses 'adapt a health lifestyle' instead of 'adopt a healthy lifestyle', and 'living style' instead of 'lifestyle'. Furthermore, phrases like 'the importance of regular sleep in their life' contain slight prepositional and lexical awkwardness. Despite these flaws, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the message clearly without impeding communication, placing the response firmly at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at conditional structures and relative clauses ('If people are struggling... they could suffer...'). There are, however, several grammatical errors and awkward structures. For example, the student writes 'this could also make difficult for people' (missing an object like 'it'), and uses incorrect verb forms such as 'could start some workshops... to promote that importance' instead of 'the importance'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while errors are present, they rarely impede communication. This balance of mixed structures and manageable errors corresponds directly to the Band 6 descriptors.
