Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the problems caused by lack of sleep, such as restlessness and overstimulation from screens, and suggesting practical solutions like proper bedtime routines and meditation. However, the response is 249 words long, falling slightly short of the 250-word minimum requirement. This minor under-length constraint slightly impacts the full development of ideas, placing it firmly at the lower end of the band. Nevertheless, the ideas presented are relevant and clearly linked to the prompt. Examples such as spending days on computers and evenings on smartphones are provided to support the arguments, resulting in a solid performance for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into four paragraphs, following a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing problems and solutions respectively, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used throughout the text, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Moving forward', which help guide the reader through the progression of ideas. However, some referencing and transitions feel slightly mechanical, and spacing issues (such as 'stay up night' and 'day -to-day') slightly disrupt the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct parts of the task. Overall, the writing demonstrates a coherent arrangement and logical progression, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'overstimulated', 'unplugging', and 'mindful breaks'. There are some word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'stay up night' instead of 'stay up at night' and 'making a appropriate' instead of 'making an appropriate'. Despite these minor errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main ideas clearly without causing confusion for the reader. Spelling is generally accurate, and the lexical range meets the requirements for a Band 6 score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional and causal structures like 'since most of the population have a hectic routine, they become restless'. There are some grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the one of the main reasons of this problem' and 'young generation prefers'), missing articles ('stay up night'), and punctuation spacing errors ('day -to-day'). However, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout the response, fitting the Band 6 descriptors where a mix of structures is used alongside persistent minor errors.
