Student answer (Band 6.5)
These days many people have expressed that they are facing difficulties in getting proper sleep. There are two main issues this could cause, which are health issues and difficulties in balancing their lives, and these problems could only be controlled by changing their lifestyle.
Lack of sleep could be harmful for one's overall health. If people are struggling with sleeplessness for a longer period of time, they could suffer from long term cognitive disabilities and diseases like stress, insomnia, cancer, and anxiety. Additionally, this could also make it difficult for people to balance their personal and professional lives efficiently. As a result, they could face serious problems in their lives (family misunderstandings and being unable to complete a work task before the due date) as they could feel irritated and tired all the time because of improper sleep. For example, the cancer rate has increased drastically by 24% in the last two years because of insomnia, according to the World Health Organization.
There are two possible things that could be done to tackle this problem. Firstly, people could try to adopt a healthy lifestyle. If they could stop using technical gadgets such as mobile phones, laptops, and computers at least an hour before going to bed, and could try to engage in lightweight exercise or yoga. Consequently, they could see a positive and significant change in their sleep pattern. Secondly, the government could start some workshops and awareness campaigns to promote the importance of regular sleep in their life.
In conclusion, not getting enough sleep could be harmful for someone's overall well-being by impacting their health and work-life balance negatively. This serious issue could be solved by adopting a healthy living style and the government could also contribute to this.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the problems caused by lack of sleep (health issues and work-life balance difficulties) and solutions to the problem (adopting a healthy lifestyle and government awareness campaigns). The position is clear throughout the essay. Ideas are generally well-developed and supported with relevant examples, such as mentioning the World Health Organization regarding cancer statistics, although some arguments could be explored in slightly greater depth to reach a higher band. Overall, the task response is fully satisfactory and covers all prompt requirements effectively, deserving a solid Band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay displays a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Information and ideas are coherently structured into an introduction, body paragraphs addressing problems and solutions, and a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'As a result', 'Firstly', and 'Secondly' are used to guide the reader, although there is a slight mechanical feel to their placement at times. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the prompt. Referencing is generally clear, contributing to a smooth overall flow of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'cognitive disabilities', 'work-life balance', and 'awareness campaigns'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as writing 'living style' instead of 'lifestyle' in the conclusion, and 'technical gadgets' instead of 'electronic devices'. However, these errors do not impede communication, and the writer demonstrates a sufficient resource of vocabulary to convey their ideas clearly and appropriately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. The writer attempts various complex structures, such as conditional clauses ('If people are struggling...') and relative clauses. However, there are some grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, notably sentence fragments or run-ons in the second body paragraph, such as starting a sentence with 'If they could stop...' without a main clause completion, and punctuation slips. Despite these errors, meaning is rarely impeded, and the majority of simple structures are accurate.
