Student answer (Band 5.0)

In this fast-paced world, people are not getting enough sleep and some of them have difficulties to make a routine for good sleep circle. In this essay I will explain the causes and mention the possible solutions with relevant examples.

To begin with, people are not having enough sleep due to several reasons. People are getting busy in electronic devices with internet that they are unable to experience the real life. Another compelling reason is that, Internet changes the whole scenerion of this world, by the we go to bed we can't switch the phones with scrolling the whole Instagram feed without watching the clock. Moreover, some people working hours are so strict that they can't get enough sleep for themselves and later on, they found out difficulties to sleep. For Example, two weeks ago, I did my night shift in the hospital, where I had to sleep in the morning and it takes me 2 more weeks to get back to the routine to sleep in the night.

To control these issues, First we have to be consistent to maintain good habits in night. we should have to go early to the bed maximum at 8:30 in the night so by the time we sleep it would be 9:30 pm. Also, when we lay down on the bed there shouldn't be anyelectronic device closer to our bed. Also, make routine of reading the book before sleep that helps in good sleep.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The candidate's response falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, containing only 242 words, which directly impacts the task achievement score. Furthermore, the prompt specifically asks about the *problems* that lack of sleep can cause and *what can be done* about it. However, the introduction misinterprets the prompt by stating 'I will explain the causes and mention the possible solutions,' replacing the requested effects/problems with causes. The body paragraphs do touch briefly on a personal example regarding night shifts and offer solutions such as going to bed earlier and avoiding electronic devices, but the ideas remain under-developed and fail to fully address the core question regarding the various problems caused by sleep deprivation. Consequently, the response merits a band score of 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays some basic organization with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion, though the paragraphing is somewhat cramped at the end. Cohesive devices are attempted, such as 'To begin with,' 'Another compelling reason is that,' and 'To control these issues,' but they are occasionally used mechanically or inappropriately, such as using 'reason' when introducing solutions. Referencing is sometimes unclear, for instance, 'by the we go to bed' and 'where I had to sleep in the morning and it takes me 2 more weeks.' While there is an overall progression of ideas from problems/causes to solutions, the logical flow is disrupted by structural weaknesses and repetitive phrasing. Therefore, a band score of 5.5 is appropriate for coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The lexical range is limited and adequate only for basic communication. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'fast-paced world,' 'compelling reason,' and 'consistent,' but these are offset by frequent word choice errors, awkward collocations, and spelling/typographical mistakes like 'circle' instead of 'cycle,' 'scenerion' instead of 'scenario,' and 'electronic' misspelled as 'electronic' or used repetitively. Phrasing such as 'people are getting busy in electronic devices' and 'found out difficulties to sleep' demonstrates restricted control over word formation and collocation. These noticeable errors cause some difficulty for the reader, placing the lexical resource at a band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures frequently result in grammatical errors. Examples include 'people are not getting enough sleep and some of them have difficulties to make a routine,' 'by the we go to bed we can't switch the phones with scrolling,' and 'we should have to go early to the bed.' Punctuation and article usage are also problematic throughout the text, with run-on sentences and missing articles. Although the meaning can mostly be deciphered, the frequency of grammatical errors and awkward phrasing means that error-free sentences are in the minority. This aligns with the descriptors for a band 5.0 in grammatical range and accuracy.
