Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the task well, identifying both the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The student explores physical and health-related issues, such as decreased productivity, cell function impairment, and high blood pressure, and offers relaxation techniques and exercise as solutions. Ideas are generally well supported with examples, such as the effect of sleep deprivation on skin elasticity. However, the introduction contains a typographical error ('this factors' instead of 'these factors') and an incomplete expression ('profer solution'). Overall, the task is adequately fulfilled, aligning closely with the Band 6 or 7 descriptors, though the development of ideas could be slightly more polished to secure a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, problems, solutions, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader, with transition markers such as 'To begin', 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Futhermore' helping to structure the response. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally mechanical or slightly faulty, as seen in minor awkwardness in transitions. Additionally, there are punctuation and spacing issues around commas and periods throughout the text, which detract slightly from the overall flow. Nevertheless, the progression of information remains clear.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'sleep deprivation', 'cell function impairment', 'serotonin', and 'overall wellbeing'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors that prevent a higher score. For example, 'alot' is used instead of 'a lot', 'profer solution' should be 'proffer solutions', 'high blood pleasures' should be 'high blood pressure', and 'incoperating' is a misspelling of 'incorporating'. Despite these inaccuracies, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without severely impeding communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar with structures like 'when one fails to sleep well, the person appears stressed...' However, there are frequent grammatical errors and slips in agreement and spelling. For instance, 'human cells needs' contains a subject-verb agreement error, and 'result to' should be 'result in'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with missing or misplaced commas before conjunctions and after introductory phrases. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to restrict the score to Band 6.
