Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the task, discussing the problems caused by a lack of sleep (such as mental and physical health issues, loss of concentration, and daytime fatigue) and proposing solutions (such as creating daily timetables, limiting screen time, and adjusting diet). The position is clear throughout, and the ideas are relevant, though some points tend to be somewhat generalised and under-developed, particularly the physical consequences and solutions. For instance, mentioning that the 'body become numb' is imprecise and lacks clear explanation. Overall, all parts of the prompt are covered well enough to satisfy the requirements for a Band 6.0, as the main issues are identified and discussed with a clear, logical structure even if the depth of expansion is limited.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing the prompt's two main questions, and a brief conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised adequately to separate the problems and the solutions. However, the progression and use of cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or faulty. Transitions such as 'After that in term of physical health' and 'At last, use the red light in room' sound unnatural and highlight weaknesses in cohesion. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as pronoun usage in 'that have to follow at all cost.' These flaws place the response firmly in the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range, where overall organization is visible, but the execution of cohesive elements lacks flexibility and precision.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The lexical range is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate straightforward ideas about sleep deprivation. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary items and phrases, such as 'contemporary era', 'mitigate this problem', and 'daytime fatigue'. However, frequent word choice, collocation, and spelling errors occur throughout the text, including 'a problems regarding to get a enough sleep', 'effects there mental health', 'alchol', and 'quite' instead of 'quiet'. These errors do not completely impede communication, as the reader can still grasp the intended meaning, but they restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.5, reflecting a limited yet minimally adequate range with noticeable inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in grammatical structures. However, frequent grammatical errors are present across the text, such as missing articles ('make the balance', 'in room'), incorrect preposition usage ('regarding to'), and tense or agreement issues ('not getting a proper sleep people become more lazy', 'there are abundance of solutions that one can done'). While these errors do not completely obscure the meaning, they occur regularly and show a lack of consistent control over complex syntax. This performance aligns with the Band 5.0 descriptor, where frequent errors in grammar and punctuation can cause some difficulty and distraction for the reader.
