Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the task by identifying problems associated with a lack of sleep, such as negative impacts on mental and physical health, and suggesting solutions like promoting healthy lifestyles and building recreational facilities. However, the ideas are somewhat under-developed, and the response is cut off prematurely at the end of the second body paragraph due to time or planning issues. Additionally, the length requirement of 250 words is not met, as the text contains only 238 words. Because the task is slightly under-length and conclusions are abrupt, the response cannot achieve above Band 5.0 for this criterion, reflecting partial task fulfilment.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay has a recognisable structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and an unfinished conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is incomplete. Cohesive devices such as 'however', 'to be more precise', and 'moreover' are used to link ideas, but their application is sometimes awkward or repetitive. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'this trend provide worse impact'. The overall progression of ideas is hindered by frequent structural and grammatical interruptions, leading to a Band 5.0 score for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student attempts a range of vocabulary relevant to the topic, including terms like 'digital devices', 'competetive lifestyle', and 'fitness centre'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, such as 'disturbace' instead of disturbance, 'approch' instead of approach, 'helathly' instead of healthy, and 'elronical' instead of electronic. Furthermore, collocation errors like 'provide negative effects' instead of have negative effects restrict the lexical score. The vocabulary is adequate to convey basic meaning, fitting the Band 5 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'which sciencific proved as it provide' and 'people should emphasis make realistics goal'. Tense consistency is poorly managed, and the unfinished sentence at the end further diminishes the grammatical range. While basic meaning remains mostly intelligible, the high frequency of intrusive grammatical errors places this writing firmly at Band 5.0.
