Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the causes of lack of sleep, such as stress and mobile phone usage, and solutions like meditation, reducing screen time, and government action. The position is generally clear throughout the text, and ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as mentioning social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, and biological factors like melatonin production. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise in places, and some ideas are slightly under-developed or repetitive in phrasing. Overall, the content fully satisfies the task requirements, aligning well with the Band 6.5 to 7.0 descriptors for task response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing that separates the introduction, causes, solutions, and conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, transitional phrases like 'Lets start with the causes first' are quite informal and repetitive, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'and it have solutions as well.' Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. The organizational structure is adequate for the task, fitting the Band 6 descriptors comfortably.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'radiation', 'melatonin', 'meditation', and 'psychiatrics'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors that detract from the overall quality, such as 'insomenia' (insomnia), 'sufeering' (suffering), 'reson' (reasons), 'radition' (radiation), 'artical' (article), 'melonin' (melatonin), 'clam' (calm), 'drak' (dark), and 'eefective' (effective). While these errors do not completely impede communication, their frequency prevents the score from reaching a higher band, placing this response firmly at Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions throughout the text. Examples include 'there are increasing in the number', 'Number of people complain about they are sufeering', 'it have solutions', 'those above factor causing a insomenia', 'phone screen are realising blue lights', 'people having a difficulties to getting', and 'listing yoga nindra'. These frequent errors can cause occasional difficulty for the reader, though they rarely obscure the overall meaning entirely, corresponding to Band 5.5.
