Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by identifying the problems caused by lack of sleep, such as poor concentration and mistakes, and suggesting solutions like practicing yoga and reducing electronic device use before bedtime. The position is clear throughout, and relevant ideas are presented, although some supporting examples are slightly under-developed or repetitive in nature. For instance, the mention of a student performing poorly due to sleep deprivation is repeated in both body paragraphs. While the ideas are adequately presented to fulfill the task requirements, extending the development of the arguments with more varied examples would elevate the response. Overall, the task is addressed with clear relevance, earning a solid band score for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs focusing respectively on problems and solutions, and a brief conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct aspects of the prompt. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. Transitional phrases like 'To explicate it more' and 'To explain in detail' feel somewhat unnatural and repetitive. Furthermore, referencing and logical transitions between sentences occasionally break down due to grammatical slips, such as in the sentence starting with 'For instance, if a student sleep well...'. These issues prevent the cohesion from being entirely smooth, placing the response firmly in the mid-range for this criterion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but contains numerous spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples of lexical inaccuracies and misspellings include 'acurate' instead of accurate, 'amoung' instead of among, 'schudle' instead of schedule, 'elcetronic' instead of electronic, 'majors' instead of major, and 'notofiaction' instead of notification. While the student attempts less common vocabulary like 'sleep deprivation', 'concentration power', and 'lifestyle', these frequent mechanical and spelling errors demonstrate limited precision and control over word formation and spelling conventions. Communication is generally maintained, but the recurring errors prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional clauses ('if a student sleep well...') and concessive clauses ('Even though it can be distrubed...'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions. Examples include 'lack of sleep become' (should be 'becomes'), 'a person who did not completed sleep las night may not able to perform proper' (should be 'did not complete' and 'properly'), and 'stay awake in night' (should be 'staying awake at night'). These errors occur regularly throughout the text, although they rarely impede overall comprehension. The control of grammar corresponds to a modest band score.
