Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by a lack of sleep and what can be done about it. The candidate attempts to explore issues such as stress, depression, internet usage, and financial worries, and offers solutions like exercise, balanced diets, and better sleep schedules. However, some ideas are underdeveloped and lack clear focus. For instance, the mention of 'neet paper' leaks and student suicide is overly specific and lacks a clear, logical connection to general sleep deprivation. While a position is presented, the development is somewhat disjointed and repetitive, particularly regarding stress and work issues. Overall, the response meets the criteria for Band 5.0 as it addresses the task partially with limited and under-developed ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay attempts a paragraph structure with introductory and concluding remarks, and basic cohesive markers such as 'Firstly,' 'Secondly,' and 'In conclusion.' However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by abrupt transitions and disjointed sentences. Paragraphing is poorly handled, with some paragraphs containing disconnected ideas, such as mixing internet usage with examination stress. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, and cohesive devices are used mechanically. For example, sentences often start with repetitive connectors like 'As many...' or 'Another reason is...'. While there is some organizational structure, the overall flow lacks clarity and progression, placing it at a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The candidate demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary suitable for discussing daily life, health, and stress, using terms like 'sleep cycle,' 'depression,' 'balanced diet,' and 'antidepressant medications.' However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices throughout the text, such as 'sleep debridment' instead of sleep deprivation, 'doing hardwork' instead of working hard, and phrases like 'what can we done about.' Vocabulary repetition is also evident, with words like 'sleep,' 'stress,' and 'issue' appearing frequently. These noticeable errors and limited lexical flexibility cause some difficulty for the reader, aligning with the Band 5.0 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses, prepositions, and article usage. Examples include 'many people complain about difficulties while during sleep,' 'children can take stress,' 'did not sleep properly' instead of could not sleep properly, and 'it can leads to depression.' Complex sentences are often faulty, and punctuation errors are common. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from reaching a higher band, making Band 5.0 an accurate assessment.
