Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying problems caused by a lack of sleep (such as physical and mental fatigue, memory loss, and poor workplace performance) and offering solutions (such as work-life management and reducing stress). However, the development of ideas is limited due to the severe under-length of the text, containing only 202 words compared to the minimum requirement of 250 words. Furthermore, the final paragraph breaks off abruptly ("To conclude,"). Because the task is only partially completed in terms of expected development and falls significantly short of the word count, it meets the criteria for Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates some basic organization with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing problems and solutions, and an attempt at a conclusion. However, overall progression is hindered by abrupt transitions and incomplete formatting, as seen in the truncated concluding sentence. Cohesive devices are sometimes used ("Furthermore", "As a solution to this problem"), but referencing and paragraph structuring are occasionally clumsy or mechanical. Paragraphing is used, but the final paragraph is incomplete. These features align with the Band 5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses a minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common collocations such as "mental fatigue", "brain fog", and "health experts". However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors throughout the response, such as "leads toward" instead of "leads to", "unability" instead of "inability", "hurts badly", and "lowering down courtisol levels" (reducing cortisol levels). Spelling and word-form inaccuracies cause some distraction for the reader, fitting a Band 5.0 score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control is inconsistent. There are several noticeable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing instances, such as "This trend can leads toward", "must be follow", and "If one would have managable stress, the life would be easy." Punctuation and article usage are also flawed in places. These frequent grammatical errors sometimes cause difficulty for the reader, placing the response firmly in the Band 5 category.
