These days sleeping is a major concern for people, as they are not getting enough sleeping hours. This problem can create several problems related to health. For my perspective, exercise, meditation, and balancing modern lifestyle can be appropriate solution for this menace.
To begin with, nowadays, people are not getting enough sleep due to various reasons. Many health issues occur due to lack of sleep those can be physical or mental, the former one is responsible for obesity, and the latter one effects human being's psychologically. Excessive body weight is responsible for high blood pressure, heart diseases, joint pain and many more. Improper sleep effects mental health negatively which causes stress and depression.
According to me, physical activity, meditation, and maintaining balance in a hectic schedule are possible ways to tackle with this problem. Exercising and meditation helps individuals to reset their mind, as it relax both their body and mind which prove to be beneficial for person's health. More importantly, balance is a key for a healthy lifestyle, managing work and sleep plays an crucial role to stay active and energetic throughout the day. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the problems associated with a lack of sleep and proposing potential solutions. The student establishes a clear position in the introduction and maintains it throughout the essay. Ideas are extended and supported, such as when the writer explains how obesity leads to high blood pressure and heart diseases, and offers concrete solutions like exercise and meditation. However, some arguments tend to over-generalise or remain slightly under-developed, particularly the example regarding government regulations in developed countries which lacks specific elaboration. Overall, the content fully satisfies the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7, and is best placed at Band 6.5 as some supporting points require greater depth.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a generally coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, body paragraphs on problems and solutions, and a conclusion. Logical progression is evident as the writer transitions from discussing sleep deprivation to its consequences, and subsequently to actionable solutions. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, with phrases like 'the former one' and 'the latter one' feeling slightly awkward. Additionally, referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as 'those can be physical or mental', which disrupts smooth flow. Paragraphing is present and adequate, but transitional links between sentences could be managed more flexibly to achieve a higher band level.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'menace', 'obesity', 'meditation', and 'workplace'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary like 'psychologically', 'crucial', and 'associated issues'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'getting enough sleeping hours' instead of 'sleep', 'effects human being's psychologically' where 'affects' and 'human beings' were needed, and 'tackle with' instead of 'tackle'. Spelling and word formation errors do not impede communication, placing the vocabulary safely in the Band 6 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writing exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as 'Many health issues occur due to lack of sleep those can be physical or mental'. However, this sentence suffers from a comma splice and grammatical awkwardness. There are several recurring grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'Exercising and meditation helps' and incorrect verb forms such as 'it relax both their body'. Articles are also occasionally misused, as seen in 'balance is a key for a healthy lifestyle'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the response from achieving a Band 7.
