Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the problems associated with lack of sleep and proposing solutions. However, the ideas are relatively basic and lack sufficient development and extension. For instance, the discussion on technology addiction is brief and somewhat repetitive. Furthermore, the length requirement has NOT been met: the response contains only 216 words, which is 34 words short of the 250-word minimum. This negative impact on length leads to a partial penalty under Task Achievement. While the position is clear, the lack of depth and the failure to meet the minimum word count keep the task achievement score at a lower band level. To improve, you must ensure you write at least 250 words and expand on your supporting examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text is organised into basic paragraphs with a recognizable introduction, two body paragraphs discussing problems and solutions, and a brief conclusion. However, the overall progression is heavily hindered by mechanical and faulty cohesive devices. Phrases like 'As result' and repetitive structures ('We can prevent them by...') disrupt the flow. Referencing is frequently unclear, such as pronoun confusion in 'For example, Who scroll social media cannot check time and contant will engage them without knowing the.' Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is weak. Overall organisation shows some logical intent, but faulty mechanical cohesion and unclear referencing place this in the lower band.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical resource is limited and heavily impacted by numerous word-choice, spelling, and collocation errors. Examples include 'insufficient of sleeping issues', 'serveral', 'addict to' instead of 'addicted to', 'contant', 'casuing', and 'loose' instead of 'lose'. The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, frequently struggling to convey precise meanings. While there are a few attempts at less common words like 'brainstorming' and 'meditation', these are used inaccurately in context. The persistent errors in spelling and word formation cause noticeable difficulty for the reader at times, aligning the response with a Band 5 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, with frequent and pervasive errors throughout. The majority of sentences contain major grammatical faults, such as fragments and incorrect tense usage (e.g., 'many individuals complain that they have facing', 'People was stressing their brains'). Complex sentences are attempted, but they are almost always faulty and obscure the intended meaning, as seen in 'People who addict to modern technologies like using mobile phones and playing games.' Punctuation and article usage are also weak. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and severely limit the grammatical range.
