Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the contemporary world, getting enough sleep has become difficult for many individuals. This essay will discuss the causes of the lack of sleep including mental stresses and poor diet. Moreover, this can be improved by modifying lifestyle and massage oils.
The primary reason for the sleep deprivation is the mental stress. In the modern era, people work for extended hours to elevate their standards of living; however, this could lead to the mental strain and psychological pressure. As a result, they may face difficulty in sleeping. Moreover, poor intake of diet that is the lack of proper nutrients in diet can also lead to the lack of sleep. For instance, lack of zinc in the diet can lead to the sleep deprivation.
To solve this issue, individuals have to modify their lifestyles by consuming enough nutrients and doing proper exerises atleast five times a week. This not only assists them to relieve their tension but also poses positive impact on their body health. Furthermore, changing the mattresses and pillows that can properly support their spine can also help them to sleep properly. In the market, many companies have introduced the aromatic massage oils which claims that massaging these on your body can help in uninterrupted sleep; using these oils can be the better option to get rid of poor sleep.
In conclusion, sleep deprivation in the modern era is due the mental strain and poor lifestyle. People can resolve this issue by improving their way of living and using aromatic massage oils.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the causes of sleep deprivation such as mental stress and poor diet, and solutions including lifestyle modification and the use of aromatic oils. However, there is a slight misinterpretation in the introduction where the prompt asks what problems lack of sleep can cause, but the student instead discusses the causes of lack of sleep. Despite this deviation in the introduction, the body paragraphs do successfully discuss both problems and solutions overall. The ideas are relevant and supported with examples like zinc deficiency and mattress changes, earning a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay is divided into four paragraphs, which provides a clear and coherent overall arrangement. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'For instance', and 'To solve this issue' are used to connect ideas, though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body arguments, and conclusion. While referencing is generally clear, the logical progression could be smoother, particularly regarding the shift between causes and problems. Overall, the structure meets the requirements for a Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'sleep deprivation', 'psychological pressure', and 'aromatic massage oils'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'poor intake of diet' instead of 'poor diet' or 'inadequate nutritional intake', and 'body health' instead of 'physical health'. Spelling and word formation are generally accurate, and vocabulary errors do not impede communication, placing the response firmly at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as 'mattresses and pillows that can properly support their spine'. However, there are noticeable grammatical errors throughout the text, including article misuse ('the mental strain', 'the sleep deprivation'), pluralisation errors ('proper exerises', 'claims that massaging'), and prepositions. While these errors occur frequently, they rarely impede communication, allowing the essay to achieve a Band 6.0.
