Student answer (Band 6.5)

Sleeping on time is becoming a major issue in many individuals life. A large number of people complain about problems in getting enough sleep such as stress, heavy workload and so on. I believe this is an important issue which requires urgent attention as well as effective solutions otherwise it can lead to many more problems.

I feel that getting enough sleep is very essential for a person otherwise it can be a cause of serious health problems. By not achieving enough hours of sleep, a person's health can be utterly affected. When a person is not able to get enough sleep it can cause him/her to be restless paving a path for them to take sleep medication which is very harmful in a long run by being a way for health problems such as Insomnia. Additionally, lack of sleep can cause disturbance in the family life, not only does lack of sleep affects the person but also their family life. The more a person will be restless the more he/she will avoid to take part in the family activities as well as getting irritated over the small things which is the main cause of rise in the numbers of divorce in this generation.

This issue should not be ignored and there is a need of implementation of effective measures to overcome this issue such as straight working hours and education. Policies such as regular working hours are needed to be introduced to help the employees in their personal lives which will result in resolving these hurdles as well as more productivity in their work. Additionally, government should run programmes in order to educate people that how important is the sleep for human body, For example- organising a webinar on sleep schedule which will for sure reduce the numbers of people who do not sleep on time and keeps on scrolling the social sites.

In conclusion, although lack of sleep is a very common issue due to various reasons, I wholeheartedly hold the view that it is absolutely possible to overcome this problem with education and good policies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the problems caused by a lack of sleep, such as health issues and family friction, and proposing solutions like government education and structured working hours. The position is clear throughout. However, some ideas are under-developed rather than fully extended; for instance, the connection between lack of sleep and divorce is asserted rather than logically explained with adequate supporting examples. To move higher, all main points require deeper elaboration and more thorough support to fully satisfy the higher band requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response exhibits a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are coherently arranged, with each paragraph having a distinct focus: introduction, problems, solutions, and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'For example', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader through the text, although referencing is occasionally slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate the core aspects of the task. For further improvement, paragraph transitions could be made even smoother and more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the writer's ideas. There are attempts to use less common items and phrasing, such as 'heavy workload', 'urgent attention', and 'Insomnia', demonstrating a sufficient range. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'sleeping on time' instead of 'getting to sleep on time', and 'in a long run' instead of 'in the long run'. Spelling is generally accurate, and vocabulary errors do not impede communication, placing the response securely at this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over longer constructions such as 'Policies such as regular working hours are needed to be introduced to help the employees...'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as article omissions ('education for human body') and minor prepositional slips, but they rarely impede communication. The majority of simple sentences are error-free, and complex structures are attempted with reasonable success. To achieve a higher band, the writer would need to produce a higher frequency of error-free complex sentences and eliminate minor structural slips.
