Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the problems associated with a lack of sleep and offering solutions. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others, which places it at this level. The problems are identified as poor concentration and memory, along with physical and mental effects, though the explanation of mental effects remains somewhat repetitive and relies heavily on personal anecdote rather than broader elaboration. Similarly, the suggested solutions of reducing screen time and avoiding disturbances are presented clearly, but the supporting arguments tend to wander into personal narrative rather than generalized discussion. To reach a higher band, the ideas would need to be more thoroughly extended and supported with clearer, more objective explanations and examples rather than leaning so heavily on repetitive personal stories.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure that separates the introduction, the problems, the solutions, and the conclusion. Information and ideas are logically sequenced, moving from the definition of the issue to the causes and subsequent remedies. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions, such as 'One of the main problem', 'Another significant problem', and 'Firstly', which helps guide the reader through the text. However, referencing is not always entirely clear, and some cohesive devices feel slightly mechanical or repetitive in their execution. Furthermore, paragraphing shows good general control, but the internal logical progression within the second body paragraph could be smoother to avoid abrupt shifts. To achieve a higher level of cohesion, the writer would need to demonstrate more flexible and sophisticated use of referencing and linking words without relying on predictable formulas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday concepts related to sleep deprivation, concentration, and screen time. There are noticeable attempts to use less common items and phrases, such as 'poor concentration and memory', 'exhaustion in his behaviour', and 'create a good environment'. However, the vocabulary is constrained by repetition and noticeable errors in word choice and word form, such as writing 'a issue' instead of 'an issue', 'main problem' instead of 'main problems', and 'adressed' with a single 'd'. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips occur throughout the text, though they generally do not impede communication. To move to a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire and demonstrate greater precision in word choice, collocations, and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to construct multi-clause sentences using subordinating conjunctions like 'because', 'when', and 'if'. However, there are frequent structural lapses and errors in grammar, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('their brain not get proper rest', 'a person not getting', 'person can get'), tense inconsistencies, and missing articles. For example, phrases like 'a person not getting good sleep on daily basis than it will cause' contain faulty complex sentence structures and missing auxiliary verbs. While these errors are noticeable and cause some difficulty for the reader, communication remains largely intact. To progress to a higher band, the writer needs to produce a greater proportion of error-free sentences and demonstrate firmer control over verb tenses, articles, and complex sentence patterns.
