Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the second body paragraph provides a specific example about school children, the explanation of the problems remains slightly generalised and repetitive, focusing primarily on feeling tired and struggling with daily tasks. To reach a higher band, the ideas would need to be more fully extended and supported with deeper analysis and more varied examples rather than relying on brief points.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, where each paragraph has a distinct focus—the introduction, the problems, the solutions, and the conclusion. There is a clear logical flow from identifying the issues to offering remedies. Cohesive devices such as 'One main issue', 'Another issue', 'For example', and 'To tackle this problem' are used to guide the reader through the text, successfully meeting the requirements of the lower band and showing elements of the next by maintaining a logical progression throughout, even if referencing and cohesion feel slightly mechanical at times.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'fatigue', 'inefficiency', and 'crucial tasks'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as writing 'to maintained their bed time' instead of 'maintain', 'resluts' for 'results', 'chorse' for 'chores', and 'inefficinecy'. While these errors do not impede overall communication and the meaning remains clear, they reflect a limited precision in lexical control that keeps the score at this level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at relative clauses and conditional-like structures, such as 'when individuals sleeps minimum hours because of several reasons they feel tired'. There are several grammatical errors present, including subject-verb agreement issues ('individuals sleeps', 'students got less marks ... because they have watched'), article omissions, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the reader can easily follow the intended meaning, which is characteristic of this band level.
