Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt only partially, which limits its effectiveness. While both parts of the task—the causes of lack of sleep and potential solutions—are mentioned, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For example, the explanation regarding the circadian sleep cycle is superficial and abrupt. Furthermore, the position is not always clearly sustained throughout, and the essay trails off prematurely in the final paragraph due to incomplete thoughts, such as "advance tecnology use and c". To move to a higher level, the writer needs to fully develop each point with robust supporting examples and explanations, ensuring every part of the prompt receives balanced and thorough coverage.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays some organisation with basic paragraphing and visible signposting words like "Furthermore" and "Nevertheless", yet it lacks a clear overall progression. The logical flow is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and mechanical or inaccurate use of cohesive devices, such as starting a sentence with "Firslty, public needs...". Additionally, referencing is sometimes unclear, and the internal organisation within paragraphs requires better logical linking. To achieve a higher level of cohesion and coherence, the writer must ensure that ideas build upon one another smoothly and logically without relying on mechanical formulas, and paragraphs should be fully completed rather than trailing off.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas about sleep deprivation and work stress. The writer attempts some less common lexical items, such as "circadian sleep cycle" and "hectic routine", but these are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form—such as "inclation" instead of "inclination", "purspose", and "tecnology". These errors occasionally cause difficulty or hesitation for the reader. To improve in this area, the writer needs to expand their range of vocabulary, pay closer attention to spelling and word formation, and ensure that collocations are used more accurately in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response exhibits a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on basic patterns where attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including missing articles (e.g., "as bed should be use"), incorrect verb forms (e.g., "should be needed to take"), and subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., "group of individual say"). These errors occur consistently and can cause difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer must work on building a wider variety of complex sentence structures while improving accuracy in basic grammar, punctuation, and prepositions.
