Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt by identifying causes of sleep deprivation, such as overuse of gadgets and mental stress, and offering solutions like reducing screen time and practicing relaxation techniques. However, some parts of the response are under-developed. For example, while the writer mentions psychological stress and insomnia in the second paragraph, the explanation remains somewhat limited and repetitive rather than fully extended with deeper analysis or varied examples. The position is generally clear throughout the text, but the ideas would benefit from more thorough expansion and specific details to move beyond a basic overview.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the writing into logical paragraphs, featuring an introduction, body paragraphs addressing causes and solutions, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. The writer uses basic cohesive devices like 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'For example', but referencing and transitions between sentences can feel abrupt. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct ideas, yet the flow of progression from one sentence to the next lacks smoothness in places, occasionally making the logical links feel repetitive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The lexical range is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate main ideas about sleep problems, technology overuse, and stress. The student attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'psychological stress', 'insomnia', and 'meditation', but there are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and collocation, such as 'problems of getting inadequate sleep' instead of 'problems in getting', and 'soft gadgets' instead of 'electronic devices'. Additionally, some awkward phrasings like 'downsize the usage of mobile phones time' demonstrate limited control over lexical chunks, though communication is generally maintained despite these errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting complex structures such as 'Moreover, they are scrolling different types of social media applications all the time and availability of various activities on internet distract them and leads to development of psychological stress in them.' However, attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, accompanied by errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as 'It can be manage by downsize', 'have getting adequate and relax sleep', and 'the complain of low sleep'. These frequent errors in grammar and prepositions require the reader to occasionally decipher the intended meaning.
