Student answer (Band 5.5)

These days individuals are experiencing difficulties getting quality sleep. The primary reasons behind this are work related strees and a long screen time. In the following paragraphs, this eassy will discuss reasons and effective solutions of this issue.

To begin with, due to the professional work burden, workers work at long shifts and only sleep for five to six hours. This is because sometimes they experience insomania. The more people spend time in their workplaces, the less time they have likely to get proper sleep. To address this issue, people should work only eight hours a day. If their organizations are demanding more hours, they should take legal actions against them. For example, in many countries, employers cannot force employees to work for more than eight hours a day, it is illegal and workers can take legal support against them.

Moreover, another reason of not getting a good sleep is using mobile phones for a long hours. Social media handles keep people engaged for a long time, and leave a few hours to sleep. This because people feel less motivated and energetic at their work or studies. To solve this, individuals should limit their screen time. Instead of using mobile phone, they should get sleep for atleast eight hours. It would only help them remain motivated and energetic, but also enchance their focus on studies and work.

To conclude, woking long hours and increased screen time are the reasons for a low quality sleep. To resolve this, workers should work only according to the regulations and reduce their screen time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both questions by identifying possible causes and suggesting responses, and your position is clear: long working hours and phone use contribute to poor sleep, while regulated hours and reduced screen time may help. However, the task asks what problems lack of sleep can cause, but most of the essay explains why people sleep poorly. The effects are only briefly mentioned in “less motivated and energetic” and reduced focus, so this part is only partially addressed. The proposed solutions are relevant, but the legal-action example is general and does not explain how it would improve sleep in practice. Develop the consequences more fully—for example, impacts on health, concentration, or safety—and connect each solution directly to the problem it addresses.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The paragraphs each focus on a distinct cause and related response, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Moreover,” and “To conclude” make the progression easy to follow. This coherent structure is a strength. To make the organisation more effective, ensure each paragraph answers the task’s questions rather than repeating the causes: one paragraph could explain consequences, and another could develop solutions. Some links are mechanical, and “This because” leaves the relationship between the preceding point and the next idea unclear. Use more precise referencing and transitions, and make the conclusion summarise the effects as well as the causes and remedies.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “work burden,” “screen time,” “motivated,” and “focus.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “legal actions” and “organizations are demanding more hours.” However, spelling errors and awkward or imprecise collocations are noticeable, including “strees,” “insomania,” “a long screen time,” and “get a good sleep.” These sometimes make the wording less natural, even though the overall meaning is generally understandable. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common word partnerships for sleep and employment. Prefer precise expressions such as “long working hours,” “difficulty sleeping,” and “take legal action,” and avoid repeating “sleep” without varying the phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including the comparison “The more people spend time in their workplaces, the less time they have…” and conditional structures such as “If their organizations are demanding more hours…”. These show some range, and the main message is usually clear. However, errors occur in sentence construction and grammatical patterns: “This because people feel…” is missing a verb, “for a long hours” has an incorrect article and plural form, and “It would only help them… but also…” does not use a balanced construction. The long sentence about employers and legal support also needs clearer punctuation or separation. Practise checking each sentence for a complete clause, correct articles and plurals, and parallel forms such as “not only…but also.”
