Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent times, a lot of people lament about their struggle of getting adequate sleep due to one reason or another and the problem it causes are limited creativity, severe fatigue and illness.
Firstly, some people's jobs is very demanding, it gives them no time to rest properly and this results in severe fatigue or illness. They resume very early in the morning, and are required to attend meetings often or even in some cases be on site from time to time. For instance, an architect needs to monitor the progress of bulildings frequently to avoid mistakes and if such an individual works in a large scale company, he is always on the move to monitor several projects and when he gets to sit he is developing a new site plan. Closes very late at work, prepares for the next day and is up again before dawn. Such an individual is bound to break down at some point from tiredness and in worse case, fall ill.
In addition, lack of proper sleep limits creativity. Due to fatigue, one's brain is not able to articulate properly or develop ideas. It limits a person's creative flow as the brain signals tiredness, and projects start to linger for so long or one is not able to process what to do next or go ahead with. Errors are likely to take place when the body is extremely tired and this can result into complaints from one's employer.
There is need to allocate time to rest adequately as good sleep helps the brain function properly. In as much as man is needed to work to sustain himself and provide for his family, he needs to allocate time to rest properly so he won't break down or fall ill. Take holidays when required and know when to wrap work up and rest. The use of relaxing meds also helps a lot of foster good sleep and assist with fatigue, one can get professional prescription for supplements to aid good sleep.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the question: it identifies fatigue, illness and reduced creativity as consequences, then recommends rest, holidays and professional advice about sleep aids. The examples about an architect and work demands make the discussion relevant, and the central message—that people need to balance work with rest—is clear. However, the effects are developed more fully than the solutions. For example, “allocate time to rest” and “know when to wrap work up” overlap, while the advice about relaxing medication is not explained in terms of when it is appropriate or why professional guidance matters. To strengthen the response, explain each proposed measure and connect it directly to a specific sleep-related problem.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two paragraphs explaining consequences, and a final paragraph offering solutions. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly” and “In addition” help readers follow the discussion, and the architect example supports the first main point. Some progression is less controlled within paragraphs, however. The first body paragraph moves from demanding jobs to meetings, site visits and planning, then to illness, with a long example that could be more tightly organised. The final paragraph also combines rest, holidays and medication without clearly separating or linking these recommendations. Use clearer topic sentences and divide the example and solutions into more focused steps; this would make the cohesion less mechanical and the relationships between ideas clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
There is an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “severe fatigue,” “creative flow,” “allocate time,” and “professional prescription.” These choices allow the writer to discuss both workplace pressures and the effects of tiredness. There are also attempts at less common or formal expressions, but some are inaccurate or unnatural: “lament about their struggle,” “the problem it causes are,” and “fall ill” in this context could be expressed more naturally. “Relaxing meds” is also too informal for this essay, while “bulildings” is a spelling error. Aim for precise, natural collocations and consistent formality—for example, describe people as “struggling to get enough sleep” and refer to “sleep medication” rather than “meds.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex structures, including cause-and-effect clauses (“Due to fatigue…”) and conditional phrasing (“if such an individual works…”). Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. In the opening, “the problem it causes are” has a subject–verb agreement problem; “some people's jobs is” should also have a plural verb. The sentence beginning “Closes very late at work” is a fragment, and “so he won't break down” shifts into a gendered pronoun after the general reference to “man.” Several sentences are long and joined loosely, particularly the architect example. Check agreement and sentence boundaries, and vary long sentences with shorter, complete ones.
