Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays many people experience difficulties to get adequate sleep. There are many reasons contributing to this problem such as poor social life and excessive use of social media applications. However, this issue can be solved by spending time with family and friends and reducing screen time.
First of all, these days people are working for longer hours than ever before. They cannot enough time with their family and friends. As a result, they experience stress and burnout and face difficulty to fall asleep at night. Secondly, excessive use of social media applications such as Tiktok, Instagram could also be a reason contributing towards peoples' inability to fall asleep at night. Various social media influencers posts their filtered life moments on these applications. Ordinary people get influenced from their lifestyle and feel left behind, which makes them feel depressed. Therefore, they feel it hard to fall asleep at night.
To overcome this issue, there are some practical solutions. People can take time off from their work to spend time with thier loved ones. They can go out for shopping, movie or plan a trip with their family or friends. It is beneficial for their mental well-being. For example, doctors often advice their patients to spend time with family to overcome sleep disorders. Additionally, people could reduce thier screen-time with other leisure activities such as going out for a walk, playing various sports and cooking healthy meals. It will allow them to take a break and unwind themselves. As a result, they would naturally fall asleep at night.
In conclusion, poor personal life and limitless use of social media could potentially result in sleep disorders. However, spending adequate time with loved ones and substituting screen time with other free time activities could solve this problem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses both questions: it identifies stress and social-media comparison as possible causes of sleep difficulties, then proposes spending time with loved ones and reducing screen use. The position is clear, and the examples about social activities and doctors’ advice help make the solutions relevant. However, the discussion of the problems is not fully developed: the effects of insufficient sleep itself—such as reduced concentration, poorer work performance, or health consequences—are not explained. Instead, much of this section describes factors that may cause difficulty sleeping. Some claims, including that family time can overcome sleep disorders, would also benefit from explanation or qualification. Develop the consequences of sleep loss directly and explain how each proposed measure addresses them.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall progression: an introduction presents causes and solutions, two body paragraphs develop these points, and the conclusion restates the main ideas. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “First of all,” “Secondly,” “To overcome this issue,” and “In conclusion” make the structure easy to follow. Cause-and-effect links, including “As a result” and “Therefore,” generally help the reader track the reasoning. Some transitions are a little formulaic, and repeated references to falling asleep at night make the development feel less varied. The link between the question’s focus on problems caused by lack of sleep and the discussion of causes of sleeplessness could also be made clearer. More precise referencing and smoother links between ideas would strengthen the progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the topic and includes some useful expressions, such as “stress and burnout,” “mental well-being,” “filtered life moments,” and “unwind.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the meaning remains clear despite some inaccurate or awkward wording. For example, “poor social life” does not precisely describe the issue discussed, while “people get influenced from their lifestyle” and “free time activities” are not natural collocations. There are also spelling errors in “thier” and “Tiktok,” and “advice” is used where the verb form is needed. Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and check collocations and spelling; this would make the argument sound more fluent and controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex structures, including subordinate clauses with “which” and “as a result,” and most sentences communicate their meaning clearly. There is some control of longer constructions, as in “Ordinary people get influenced from their lifestyle and feel left behind, which makes them feel depressed.” Some grammatical errors remain, however. In “They cannot enough time,” the verb phrase is incomplete; “They cannot spend enough time” is needed. Other examples include “influencers posts,” where subject–verb agreement is incorrect, and “doctors often advice,” where the verb form should be “advise.” The sentence “They can go out for shopping, movie or plan a trip” also needs more consistent grammatical structure. Proofread verb forms, agreement, and parallel phrasing to improve accuracy.
