Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent years, the issue of insomnia among many individuals has garrnered significant attention. this can cause lack of productivity, engaging in some exercises or medications as prescribed by the doctor can help reduce insomnia.

One major problem lack of sleep can cause is lack of productivity. when an individual lacks sleep it has greater effect on his/her mental health thereby limiting their productivity in theri work place as well as concentration. For example, an employee who stuffers from insomnia, may tend to contribute little or no impact in their work place because their mental wellbeing is afffected.

However, there are measures that can be followed to reduce insomnia. Some exercices like yoga can help put the spirit and mind in a well relaxed motion, thereby allowing the body to sleep. Additionally, in severe cases where exercices does not work, medications as directed by the doctor could be administered to enable the body system to sleep.

In conclusion, I believe, slleep plays a vital role to the general wellbeing of the body system and when one does not get enough sleep, they tend not to be productive. Measures such as medications and exercises can help with the lack of sleep.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both parts of the question: you identify reduced productivity as a consequence and suggest exercise, yoga and doctor-directed medication as possible responses. The example of an employee whose work is affected is relevant, but it largely repeats the main point rather than explaining it further. The discussion is also narrow: other effects of insufficient sleep and more practical measures are not explored, and the proposed solutions receive little explanation. The opening and conclusion state your view, but the ideas remain limited and under-developed. The response is 51 words below the required minimum, which restricts how fully you can explain and support your points. Develop several distinct effects and solutions, with specific explanations or examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on a problem, a paragraph on solutions and a conclusion. This makes the main direction easy to follow, and transitions such as “For example,” “Additionally” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and some linking feels mechanical. The first paragraph moves quickly from insomnia to productivity and then to solutions, while the body paragraphs contain only one main idea each. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as in “it has greater effect,” where the reader must infer what “it” refers to. Build each paragraph around a clear point, then explain and illustrate it before moving on.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “insomnia,” “productivity,” “concentration,” “mental wellbeing” and “medications,” so the subject is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or awkward, such as “put the spirit and mind in a well relaxed motion” and “enable the body system to sleep.” Repetition of “lack of sleep,” “productivity” and “insomnia” also limits flexibility. There are noticeable spelling errors, including “garrnered,” “theri,” “afffected” and “slleep,” which reduce the overall control of vocabulary. Aim for precise, natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe yoga as helping someone “relax” rather than using the unclear phrase “well relaxed motion.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “when an individual lacks sleep…” and a relative clause in “an employee who suffers from insomnia.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but there are some recurring grammatical problems. Sentence boundaries and capitalisation are inconsistent: “this” and “when” begin sentences in lowercase, and the opening combines separate ideas with a comma. Agreement and sentence construction also need attention in “it has greater effect” and “where exercices does not work.” The final sentence of the introduction is a comma splice. Use full stops or conjunctions to connect complete clauses, and check subject–verb agreement and articles when editing.
