Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both parts of the question by identifying stress and caffeine as causes, then suggesting exercise, entertainment and changes to coffee intake. The response also gives a clear general direction: lack of sleep has causes, and lifestyle changes may help. However, the task asks specifically what problems lack of sleep can cause, and this part is not directly explained. The conclusion briefly mentions effects on the body and mind, but does not identify or illustrate particular consequences such as reduced concentration or poor health. Some proposed solutions also need clearer reasoning: watching Netflix may distract from stress, but it is not explained as a reliable way to improve sleep. Develop the effects and support each main point with a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for causes and solutions, and a conclusion. This gives the reader an overall route through the answer. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “On the contrary,” and “To conclude” help signal movement between points, although “On the contrary” does not accurately introduce solutions after the causes. Some connections between ideas are unclear, particularly the shift from exercise to watching Netflix and then to coffee. The conclusion also combines several points in a long sentence, making the final message harder to follow. Use more precise transitions and organise each paragraph around a clear sequence of explanation and example.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “stress,” “anxiety,” “caffeine intake,” “exercise,” and “confidence,” and you attempt phrases such as “overcome the issue.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to interpret. For example, “nerves to open up” does not clearly describe caffeine’s effect, and “the combat of issue” is not a natural expression. Spelling errors such as “anixety,” “caffine,” and “afeect” also reduce clarity. Aim for precise, natural combinations such as “increase alertness” and “address the problem,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast clause beginning “Although people try to sleep…” and a sentence using “which.” However, complex structures are often not controlled accurately, and errors can make the reader pause. For example, “Lack of sleep became” uses an unsuitable tense, while “there are number of causes” is missing an article. In “the fear of failing always haunt the mind and don't let it rest,” the subject and verbs do not agree consistently. The final sentence also has an unclear structure and punctuation around “but.” Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, then proofread longer sentences for a clear grammatical pattern.
