Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response makes an attempt to address both questions: it mentions possible effects such as reduced mental ability, eye problems and anxiety or depression, and suggests setting a timetable and avoiding late-night phone use. However, the effects and solutions are only briefly stated, with little explanation or relevant example, so the task is addressed only minimally. The opening and conclusion are unclear, and the conclusion does not summarise a clear answer. The response contains 248 words, below the required minimum of 250; the 9 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. To improve, explain how sleep loss affects daily functioning and give practical, developed measures, such as a consistent bedtime routine or reducing screen use before bed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is some attempt to organise the response into paragraphs, and phrases such as “For instance,” “Second,” and “In conclusion” signal examples, another point and an ending. However, the overall progression is difficult to follow: the first paragraph does not clearly introduce the topic, the body paragraphs repeat phone use and poor sleep, and the final paragraph does not bring the ideas together. Connections between claims are often unclear, as in “there are loss the mantel ability, because there are not proper sleep.” Use one paragraph for effects and another for solutions, and make each paragraph develop a distinct main idea. Clear topic sentences and more accurate linking would help the reader follow the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses a small set of relevant topic words, including “sleep,” “health,” “anxiety,” “depressed,” and “time table,” so the general subject can be recognised. There are also attempts to express cause and effect, such as “impact on health.” However, vocabulary is repetitive and several word choices or forms make meaning unclear, including “growing influence,” “fully distract,” and “care the resion.” Spelling errors such as “particulary,” “focuse,” and “sucess” further reduce clarity. Build a more precise range for this topic and check spelling and collocations; for example, describe sleep loss as affecting concentration or mood, rather than repeating general references to health.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences using connectors such as “because” and “although,” but control of sentence structure is limited. Errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction are frequent and sometimes obscure the intended meaning. For example, “some people are using late night phones are there are working in late night” combines clauses without a clear grammatical relationship, while “some people are set the time table” uses an incorrect verb form. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, including the comma after “drawn,” followed by a new paragraph. Practise forming clear subject–verb sentences first, then join related ideas with accurate clauses and punctuation.
