Student answer (Band 5.0)
This days a lot of people complain that they have challenges getting enough sleep, This essay will hiighlight the problems that lack sleep can cause and also elaborate on what can be done about lack of sleep.
In recent times, many individuals complain that they have issues of not getting enough sleep.
Not getting enough sleep could be very deterimental to people's health. It could take people's concentration away from their daily activities and this could be chaotic to human existence.
Inadequate sleep could be caused by psychological problems. For example, when my aunt lost her husband last three months, it was very traumatic for her that she could rarely sleep. She was taken to the hospital and some medications were prescribed for her before she could be able to get enough sleep. Noisy environment could also deprive individuals of getting enough sleep. Generators with loud noise can make individuals unable to get enough sleep.
Not getting enough sleep can cause a medical conditon called insomenia . This condition can make individuals unable to sleep and might have to be placed on medicqtions to enable them sleep.
Inability to get enough sleep can affect people's mental wellbeing for example, during my secondary school days, our principal's son, was always listening to loud music even in the middle of the night. He became addicted to noise from the loud music that he rarely sleeps. He started mishaving, was taken to the hospital and it was diagnosed that his brain had been damaged because he rarely slept. As a result of this, he had to stop attending school as he was declared mental unfit for academics.
In conclusion, individuals who are going through traumatic conditions should be taking to counsellors who will teach them how to get along with their challenges to enable them get enough sleep. Also people should avoid noise and noisy environments to enable them get enough sleep.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses both questions: it identifies possible effects, including reduced concentration and mental-health difficulties, and suggests counselling and avoiding noisy environments. The personal examples about your aunt and the principal’s son make the discussion relevant, but some claims are unclear or insufficiently explained. For instance, the essay says lack of sleep can cause insomnia, without clarifying how this differs from insomnia causing sleep loss, and the account of brain damage is presented as a definite medical outcome without support. The solutions are also limited and are not developed beyond brief recommendations. To strengthen the response, explain the effects more precisely and give practical, clearly reasoned measures for improving sleep.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is an identifiable introduction, body discussion and conclusion, and phrases such as “For example” and “As a result of this” signal examples and consequences. However, the ideas do not progress in a consistently clear way. The second paragraph introduces causes of sleep loss, although the task asks about its problems and solutions; the following paragraph returns to effects, making the organisation feel repetitive. The two personal stories also occupy much of the discussion without being clearly grouped under the relevant effects. Some linking is mechanical, and references such as “this condition” and “this” are not always precise. Organise the body into distinct sections on consequences and remedies, and use clearer links between each claim and its explanation.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant vocabulary, including “concentration,” “traumatic,” “psychological problems” and “mental wellbeing,” so the reader can generally understand the topic. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors make expression less clear or natural. Examples include “challenges getting enough sleep,” “chaotic to human existence,” “mishaving,” and misspellings such as “deterimental,” “insomenia” and “medicqtions.” Repetition of “get enough sleep” and “individuals” also limits variety. Aim for accurate, natural combinations and check spelling carefully; more precise terms for effects and solutions would help communicate your ideas without relying on repeated general phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including clauses with “when,” “that” and “because.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, agreement, verb forms and punctuation occur often enough to affect fluency. For example, “when my aunt lost her husband last three months” has an incorrect time expression, while “individuals … should be taking to counsellors” uses an incorrect verb form. In “our principal’s son, was always listening,” the comma separates the subject from its verb, and “people’s mental wellbeing for example” needs clearer punctuation. Practise accurate past-tense narration, subject–verb patterns and sentence boundaries, then proofread for commas and complete, well-formed clauses.
