Student answer (Band 5.0)

In todays generation everybody is becoming work oriented and focusing less towards their health. it has been discussed that people are not being able to

get proper sleep which can cause lot of health problems in the future.

Firstly, Sleep plays a crucial role in ones life. It helps the body to recover and fuction propely and keeps the body fresh. However, Nowadays nobody takes it seriously and focus more on work to make more money because of huge competition which can lead so many diseases to the body. It has been said that an average sleep time of the person should be atleast 7 to 8 hours but in a recent survey it was found that people are getting only 4 to 5 hours sleep.

Moreover, Less sleep also make body feel lazy and tired. Brain does not get all the signals properly hence making people to understand less things. It also put a bad impact on the reflexes of the person. It has been observed people taking less sleep lack in their in campare to one having proper sleep. Lack of sleep also causes lot of helath issues which can be dangerous in the later part of life and cause some

serious issues to the body.

To conclude with, It should be mandatory to have at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep so that all the body parts can have proper rest and feels energetic. Putting more efforts on any other thing by cutting down the sleep hours will always put negative impact in long run.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response recognises that insufficient sleep can harm health and mentions tiredness, reduced understanding, impaired reflexes and possible later health problems. It also gives a general recommendation of seven to eight hours’ sleep. However, the task asks both what problems lack of sleep causes and what can be done about it, and the second part is only minimally addressed: making sleep “mandatory” is not explained as a practical measure, and no other actions are offered. Several effects are asserted rather than developed with clear explanations or relevant examples. To strengthen the response, explain how sleep loss affects daily functioning and health, then propose specific steps such as limiting late-night screen use, keeping regular sleep times, or addressing work pressures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. “Firstly,” “Moreover” and “To conclude” help signal the stages of the answer. However, the ideas do not progress consistently: the first body paragraph moves from sleep’s benefits to work competition and a survey, while the second repeats general health concerns without clearly organising the effects. Some linking is mechanical, and references such as “It has been observed” do not identify who observed the point or connect it to evidence. The conclusion mainly repeats the recommendation rather than drawing together the problems and solutions. Grouping the consequences in one paragraph and practical remedies in another, with clearer links between claims and explanations, would improve progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main topic, with relevant terms such as “crucial role,” “competition,” “reflexes” and “health issues.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or awkward, which sometimes makes the intended meaning unclear. For example, “focus less towards their health,” “lead so many diseases to the body” and “lack in their in campare to one having proper sleep” are not natural or precise formulations. There are also spelling errors, including “fuction,” “propely” and “helath.” Aim for accurate collocations such as “neglect their health,” “increase the risk of illness” and “perform less effectively than people who sleep adequately.” Proofreading spelling and choosing precise phrases would make the argument easier to follow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more extended sentences, including a cause-and-effect structure in “Brain does not get all the signals properly hence making people to understand less things.” However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to understand. Examples include missing or incorrect articles and possessives (“in ones life”), subject–verb agreement (“Less sleep also make”), and faulty verb patterns (“making people to understand”). Sentence boundaries and capitalisation are also inconsistent, as in “it has been discussed” after the opening sentence and the capitalised “Sleep” and “Nowadays” mid-sentence. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles and verb patterns, and use full stops to separate complete ideas. A smaller number of carefully checked complex sentences would improve control.
