Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both parts of the question: you mention effects such as tiredness, poor concentration, forgetting, and worsening health, and suggest reducing smartphone use and completing work earlier. However, these ideas are only briefly stated, and the causes of sleep difficulties are not clearly explained; the essay mainly lists effects and solutions. The example of a student falling asleep in class is relevant, but it needs fuller explanation or another specific example to support your points. The response is 180 words, so it is 70 words below the required minimum; 30 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop each problem and solution with reasons and examples, and make your position clearer from the introduction through the conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic essay structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for problems and solutions, and a conclusion. This helps the reader identify the main sections. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and several ideas run together, as in “Getting not enough sleep cause problem health and life when enough sleep people often feel tired.” The repeated opening and conclusion wording about “many reason” and “some measure” also makes the organisation feel repetitive rather than developed. Linking words such as “First” and “Second” provide some structure, but connections between claims are often unclear. Use shorter, complete sentences and organise each body paragraph around one main point, followed by an explanation or example.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use a small set of relevant words and phrases, including “tired,” “focus,” “forget,” “smartphone,” and “stay up late,” so the general topic is understandable. However, vocabulary is limited and repetitive, and several word choices or combinations are inaccurate enough to make meaning less clear. For example, “getting enough sleep is becoming more and more popular” does not express the intended idea, while “problem health and life” and “good for their healthy” are unnatural. There is also repetition of “many people complain” and “enough sleep.” Build a more precise range for discussing sleep and its effects, and check collocations and word forms. For instance, use “common” rather than “popular” when describing a widespread problem.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to communicate through both simple statements and longer sentences, and the overall meaning can usually be followed. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors are frequent, particularly with subject–verb agreement, missing verbs, articles, and sentence boundaries. Examples include “There are many reason,” “Getting not enough sleep cause,” and “people should enough sleep.” The sentence beginning “Because many people spend too much time…” is also left as an incomplete explanation, and several clauses are joined without clear punctuation. Practise forming complete subject–verb sentences, checking singular and plural agreement, and separating ideas with full stops. More accurate basic sentences will make your explanations much easier to understand.
