Dear .................. ,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Candace,

I hope you are healthy and hearty. I got extremely excited when I heard you are planning to choose accountancy as your major in the university. The course duration is 2 years, you will be introduced and explained in detail all the key topics that revolve around accountancy.

I will definitely suggest you to choose accountancy course, especially from this University. Actually, the professors are really supportive and also open to help despite working hours. Moreover, university has a special bursary programme, hence, scholar students like you will be benefitted. Also, university is just 20 minutes away from your place, which in return will save your time and therefore, you can focus more towards your studies.

I believe university admissions open every fall and springs, so that will be the best time to apply. You can also check at their website. Moreover, keep all your documents ready in advance, so that you don't miss out your chance. Feel free to call me during weekends at any time.

Best Regards,

Rasan

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points and maintain a friendly, appropriate tone. You identify the subject and duration of the course, explain the university’s supportive professors, bursary programme and convenient location, and offer application advice about timing, the website and documents. This covers the task well, but some details are less fully developed: for example, “all the key topics” does not explain what you studied, and the advice to check the website could be more specific about what to look for or how to submit an application. The recommendation is clear, with relevant reasons, though a little more personal detail or an example of your experience would make the advice more convincing and complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter is organised into clear paragraphs that move from the course, to reasons for choosing the university, and then to application advice and a friendly closing. This gives the reader a logical progression, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Also,” and “therefore” help connect supporting points. The overall structure is effective for an informal letter. At times, however, the links feel somewhat formulaic, particularly where several points are introduced with “Moreover” or “Also.” The sentence beginning “The course duration is 2 years” also shifts abruptly from your excitement to course information. A more natural transition and a wider range of referencing and linking would make the flow smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the topic and includes useful terms such as “accountancy,” “bursary programme,” “admissions,” and “documents.” The meaning remains clear throughout, and you make some attempts at more formal or less common expressions. However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise, including “healthy and hearty,” “choose accountancy course,” and “scholar students.” “Benefitted” is understandable, but “eligible students” would be more accurate in this context. Some phrases, such as “focus more towards your studies,” also show limited control of collocation. Aim for natural, precise expressions rather than elevated wording that does not quite fit; this would improve flexibility and appropriacy while preserving the friendly tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses with “when,” “despite,” and “so that,” and your meaning is generally easy to follow. Some sentences are controlled, such as “You can also check at their website,” while others show grammatical problems. In “The course duration is 2 years, you will be introduced…,” two independent clauses are joined with a comma; use a full stop or a conjunction. “I will definitely suggest you to choose” has an incorrect verb pattern, and “university has a special bursary programme” needs an article. There are also small punctuation and spacing issues, such as the extra space in “miss out your chance.” More accurate sentence boundaries and verb patterns would strengthen control.
