Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Saumil,
I hope this letter finds you in radiant health and best of the spirits.I was so excited and happy when I saw your letter first and top of that I got to know that you are thinking about doing a Physiotherapy course.I am writing all the important information in this letter.
First, this course is very excellent for you. You always had an interest in fitness and building muscles. There are so many subjects in this course; among all of them Anatomy and Physiology are the main subjects. You have to learn those very thoroughly.
I recommended this specific course to you because I know you want to develop your career in sports. However, because of the injury doctor suggested you to not to play any kind of sports activity. Thus, being a sports physiotherapist will help you and you will enjoy working as a therapist.
You have to enroll youself for the admission process and give all the marksheets of your board examination. This process is quite easy and you can do it on university's official website.
I am sure you will select for this program and you will build a great career in it. If you need any more help from me, you are always welcome at our house and you can call me as well. Hoping to hear soon from you with good news.
Yours Lovingly,
Shivani Panchal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you identify the subject as Physiotherapy and mention Anatomy and Physiology, explain its relevance to your friend’s interest in sports, and give application guidance. The personal context about the injury makes the recommendation relevant. However, the course details are quite general, and the reason for choosing this particular university is not clearly explained; the advice focuses mainly on submitting marksheets through the website. To strengthen the response, add specific information about the course or university, such as its practical training, facilities, or teaching, and give clearer application steps. The main ideas are relevant, but some are less fully developed than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: an opening, course information, reasons for the recommendation, application advice, and a friendly closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and transitions such as “First,” “However,” and “Thus” guide the reader. Some links feel mechanical or do not express the relationship precisely: “However” introduces a reason that supports your recommendation, while “Thus” repeats that connection. The opening also combines several ideas in one long paragraph, and the shift from course details to advice could be smoother. Use transitions that show the intended relationship and make references explicit, so the progression feels more natural and less formulaic.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a friendly letter, including relevant terms such as “Physiotherapy,” “Anatomy,” “sports physiotherapist,” and “admission process.” These make the subject clear, and the personal tone is generally appropriate. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural choices, including “radiant health and the best of the spirits,” “this course is very excellent,” and “give all the marksheets.” “Recommended” is also less suitable than “recommend” in the sentence about your reason for writing. Aim for natural collocations and a consistent friendly register rather than overly formal or exaggerated expressions. More precise vocabulary for course features and application requirements would also make the advice more informative.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, for example, “because I know you want to develop your career in sports” and “If you need any more help from me…”. The meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. In “I recommended this specific course to you,” the present-tense context calls for “recommend”; “You have to enroll youself” needs a correct reflexive pronoun and a clearer construction; and “I am sure you will select” needs a passive form if you mean that the university will choose the applicant. Missing spaces after full stops and the comma splice in “I am sure… and you will build…” also affect accuracy. Check verb forms, sentence boundaries, and punctuation carefully.
