Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Anjit,

I'm glad you're thinking about pursuing the same course that I chosed at my university. Since you've asked for my advice, I would like to suggest you a few useful things.

I was enrolled in International Business Management course, which is a one year program. This program allows you to gain practical experiences, develop communication and professional skills, with comprehensive knowledge of profits, margins and equity.

I would recommend you to join Lambton University, which is one of the reputed universities in Canada. Professors and lectures of this university have deep knowledge about their curriculum and they support throughout your studies to achieve your dreams. The university also provides the top-notch facilities, such as, library, housing, peaceful study environment, with scholarships to students who cannot afford to study.

I would suggest you to apply to this university online by visiting their official website. You can also email your resume and transcripts to administration department, and request them to assist you in the enrollment process. Best of luck, Anjit.

Lots of love,

Yasha

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three requested points and maintains a clear, friendly recommendation. You identify the course as International Business Management and describe its duration and learning outcomes; you also give reasons for recommending Lambton University, including knowledgeable teaching staff, facilities, and scholarships. The application advice is practical, with suggestions to use the website and send a résumé and transcripts. These ideas are relevant and sufficiently extended to meet the task well. To make the response more fully developed, add a specific personal example of how the course or university benefited you, and clarify any application details you know, such as deadlines or required documents. This would make the recommendation less general and more persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5

The information follows a clear, logical sequence: you introduce the reason for writing, describe the course, explain why you recommend the university, and finish with application advice and a warm sign-off. Paragraphing supports this progression, and phrases such as “Since you’ve asked for my advice” and “I would suggest” help connect the purpose of each section. The letter format is appropriate and easy to follow. Some links between details are a little list-like, particularly in the description of facilities and course benefits. You could improve the flow by grouping related points and adding a brief explanation of how each feature helps students, rather than presenting several items in succession.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a friendly letter about university study, including “practical experiences,” “professional skills,” “curriculum,” “transcripts,” and “enrollment process.” These choices communicate the subject clearly, and “top-notch facilities” adds an appropriately positive tone. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural word combinations, such as “suggest you a few useful things,” “deep knowledge about their curriculum,” and “support throughout your studies to achieve your dreams.” “Professors and lectures” also appears to use the wrong word for teaching staff. Aim for more natural collocations and precise terms; this would make your vocabulary more flexible and controlled while preserving the friendly tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

The response includes both simple sentences and more developed structures, such as the relative clause in “which is a one year program” and the sentence explaining how the course develops skills. Most ideas remain clear, and punctuation generally helps the reader follow the letter. Some grammatical errors remain, including “I chosed” instead of “I chose,” “suggest you” where the verb pattern requires “suggest that you” or “suggest something to you,” and “request them to assist” rather than “request that they assist.” There are also article and number issues in phrases such as “a one year program” and “practical experiences.” Review verb forms and verb patterns, and check articles and singular/plural choices. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control.
