Dear .................. ,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Ali,
I hope you are doing well. I just saw your e-mail regarding taking admission in my university and applying for the same course. I am glad that somebody will enroll in the same course I studied.
So basically, the course I took was Dentistry. It is a four year program, which involves, basic sciences subjects like Anatomy and Physiology in the first year. In later years we studied Tooth anatomy and oral medicines. Moving forward in last two years we studied major subjects like Operative Dentistry and Prosthodontics. Moreover, we did hands-on practice on tooth models made of plaster and some students were given a chance to do pateints as well.
To be honest, I recommend my university to everyone, because of the staff here. Our teachers and technicians are always there to help and guide us. The professors have good knowledge and practice because most of them run their private clinics in the evenings. Their dedication and expertise are the primary inspiration for pursuing this field.
The application process is quite easy. You just have to visit the university. Go straight to the admin office, ask them for the admission form for Dentistry. Fill the form and attach basic documents mentioned on it, with your photograph. Still if you need any kind of help, do text me instantly.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Alam

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three requested points and maintains a friendly, helpful purpose throughout. You give concrete course details, including the four-year Dentistry programme, subjects studied in different years, and practical work; you also explain your recommendation by describing the supportive staff and professors’ clinical experience. The application advice is actionable, with steps to visit the university, obtain a form, and attach documents. These details extend the main ideas and make the response useful to Ali. To make the advice even more fully developed, clarify whether an in-person visit is essential and mention any relevant deadlines or entry requirements, rather than relying only on the general instruction to ask the administration office.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information is arranged in a clear sequence: an opening acknowledging Ali’s enquiry, a paragraph about the course, one explaining your recommendation, and a final paragraph on applying. This progression makes the letter easy to follow, and phrases such as “Moreover” and “To be honest” help signal relationships between ideas. The closing is also appropriate for a personal letter. Some linking is a little mechanical or imprecise: “Moving forward in last two years” does not smoothly introduce the next stage, and “Still if you need” is an awkward transition to the offer of help. Use simpler, more natural links such as “In the final two years” and “If you need any help,” and keep the paragraph transitions equally direct.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use a suitable range of vocabulary for a personal letter about university study, including subject-specific terms such as “Anatomy,” “Prosthodontics,” and “Operative Dentistry.” Words such as “dedication,” “expertise,” and “hands-on practice” also help convey your reasons for recommending the course. Meaning remains clear, but some choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “taking admission,” “oral medicines,” and “do pateints.” “Basic sciences subjects” is also an awkward phrase. These slips show that you are attempting more specific vocabulary, but greater control of common academic and application-related expressions would improve precision. Check spelling carefully and choose collocations that sound natural in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes both simple sentences and more developed structures, for example the relative clause in “a four year program, which involves…” and the reason clause beginning “because of the staff.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the reader can follow the course description and application steps. Some grammatical errors remain, however: “a four year program” needs a hyphen in the compound modifier, “subjects like” is not well integrated after “involves,” and “Still if you need” needs a clearer conditional structure. The sentence beginning “Go straight to the admin office” also shifts into a series of commands without a clear connection to the preceding sentence. Review sentence boundaries, clause links, and punctuation to make these instructions more controlled.
