Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Sam,

I hope you’re doing fantastic! I received your message last Sunday in which you asked about my advice regarding the course that I have done from university last year.

I was so pleased to hear that you fill an admission form in Trinity University to do a teacher assistant course. The length of the program is two years, including practicum. I also completed the same course from same educational institution. Honestly, I had a great experience while doing this course from learning new concepts to acquiring useful information about teaching techniques. This course not only offers students develop valuable skills, particularly a sense of confidence and collaboration, but it also gives them an opportunity to meet diverse culture people and share their perspectives with each other.

I would recommend you to choose this university instead of getting admission in any other institution. Because it provides better quality education to students and also offers job opportunities for those learners who are completing their studies form this opportunity. Although other educational institutions also provide best education, it assists students in every aspect of their life such as finding an accommodation and offering scholarships to intelligent students.

To get admission in this university, you have to fill a form in which students provide all the information about previous education. It may take 2-3 days to get a response after submitting a form. Most of the times, learners get enrol in this university after applying. Fortunately, this university has students’ advisor office where pupils can ask questions about program requirements.

I believe you consider my suggestions before applying of this program and choose a right decision.

I am looking to hearing a positive response.

Best regards,

Harjot

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: describing the course, recommending the university, and providing application advice. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the explanation of the course benefits and the practical steps for applying. The response is fully relevant to the prompt and maintains a consistent focus on the task requirements, demonstrating a clear understanding of the communicative purpose.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each bullet point, and a closing. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Furthermore', and 'To get admission' are used to link ideas, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the referencing is generally clear, making the letter easy to follow from start to finish.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

The vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task, with some good collocations like 'valuable skills' and 'diverse culture people'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'fill an admission form' (should be 'fill out' or 'complete') and 'get enrol' (should be 'get enrolled'). While the range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, it lacks the more sophisticated, idiomatic control required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'course that I have done from university' (should be 'took at university') and 'applying of this program' (should be 'applying for'). Additionally, there are minor issues with prepositions and verb forms (e.g., 'completing their studies form this opportunity'). Despite these errors, the meaning is never obscured, and the writer demonstrates a reasonable command of sentence construction.
