Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter covers all three bullet points: it describes the mechanical engineering course, explains why the university is recommended, and outlines the application process. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the advice on the application process is a bit vague and lacks a clear, logical flow, ending abruptly with an incomplete sentence. While the tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, the content could be more detailed to fully satisfy the requirements of a Band 7 response. The response is relevant, but the lack of depth in the explanation of the application process prevents a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite mechanical and sometimes absent. There are several run-on sentences and comma splices, such as 'Hope you are fine last week I completed my course...' which disrupts the flow of ideas. Transitions between sentences are often missing or awkward, making the progression of ideas feel disjointed. To improve, you should focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition') and ensuring that each sentence is clearly separated by appropriate punctuation.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. You rely on simple phrases like 'give you info' and 'get a job'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'take am admission' (should be 'apply for admission') and 'mechanical faculty' (usually 'department' or 'faculty of engineering'). While the meaning is generally clear, there is little attempt to use less common or more precise vocabulary. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more specific terminology related to university applications and academic study.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include missing articles ('the University of Karachi'), incorrect verb forms ('it's help full'), and significant punctuation errors, particularly the lack of full stops between independent clauses. The final sentence is incomplete, which is a major grammatical error. While you demonstrate an attempt to use complex structures, the lack of control over basic grammar and punctuation limits the score. Focusing on sentence boundaries and subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your accuracy.
