Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided details about the computer science course, explained why you recommend the university, and offered clear advice on the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, you could provide a specific example of a skill learned in the course or a particular event at the university to make your recommendations more persuasive and personal.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Another significant reason is that' and 'Either you can apply... or you can'. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that transitions between sentences are smoother. Some sentences feel slightly disconnected, and the punctuation around your cohesive devices could be refined to improve the overall readability.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'academic curriculum', 'well-structured', and 'representative'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'offer an advice' (advice is uncountable) and 'computer field' (should be 'the field of computer science'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic or professional vocabulary and ensure you are using articles and prepositions correctly with your chosen nouns.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'highly qualified educators are available' (incorrect word order), 'it's' (should be 'its'), and 'an additional fees' (should be 'additional fees'). Additionally, there are some issues with capitalization and article usage. To achieve a higher score, focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, as these errors currently prevent the writing from being consistently accurate.
