Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Rahn,

I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I'm writing you to give suggestion related to French classes from St. Clair college.

As you know that I'm pursing French classes from past two months and I develop strong foundation of this language.

I'd say you should definitely consider this college because it offer both online and offline classes. You can easily work if you take classes online. Moreover, if you did well in this course you can easily target your Permanent residency in Canada.

They are offering a huge discount on next batch if you're interested let me know. You just need to submit online form any they'll reach out to you.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing the course, recommending the university, and explaining the application process. However, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum, which limits the development of ideas. For example, the description of the course is very brief, and the advice on how to apply is limited to a single sentence. To achieve a higher band, you need to expand on your personal experience with the course content and provide more detailed, helpful advice for your friend. Because the length requirement was not met, the task is only partially addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into short paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and somewhat mechanical. For instance, you use 'Moreover' to link ideas, but the transitions between the introduction, the body, and the conclusion feel abrupt due to the brevity of the text. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your sentences flow more naturally into one another to create a more cohesive piece of writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You rely on simple phrasing, such as 'give suggestion' (should be 'give suggestions') and 'pursing French classes' (should be 'pursuing'). While your meaning is clear, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive and lacks the sophistication of less common lexical items. To improve, try to incorporate more specific academic or professional terminology related to university courses and the application process.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

There are several grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of your writing. For example, 'I'm writing you to give suggestion' should be 'I am writing to give you some suggestions', and 'I develop strong foundation' should be 'I have developed a strong foundation'. Additionally, there are issues with verb tense consistency and article usage (e.g., 'submit online form' should be 'submit an online form'). While you use some complex sentence structures, they are often marred by these errors. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your score.
