Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Ram,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I'm really happy to tell you my experience in this program and I'll highly suggest this university over others.
I've completed the course in Networking a couple of months ago and fortunately, I was able to find a field job as this particular program comes with several opportunities. I'm positive initially you'll find it very difficult as concepts are tricky and demands a thorough concentration, but along with time you gonna find it a piece of cake.
My recommendation regarding this specific location is because of the positive environment and helpful tutors. Mr. Ramesh who is the main professor of this course will be helping you left and right to achieve your desired score.
Talking about the application process, I've shared a link with you. Simply click on it and fulfill the requirements and you'll hear back from them within a week.
Anyways, I'd better get going. I'm looking forward to hearing from you soon. Let me know once you have applied.
Best wishes,
Guri

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided details about the Networking course, explained why the university is recommended, and gave clear instructions on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and informal style throughout. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands your experience and advice. To improve further, you could provide slightly more specific detail about the course content or the university facilities to make your recommendation even more persuasive and personal.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a natural closing. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different topics. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Anyways' and 'Talking about', which help the flow. However, some transitions could be more sophisticated. For instance, the transition between the difficulty of the course and the recommendation of the university is a bit abrupt. Using a wider variety of linking words or phrases would help improve the overall flow and make the connections between your ideas more seamless.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary suitable for an informal letter. Phrases like 'high spirits', 'piece of cake', and 'left and right' are used naturally and appropriately for the context. However, there are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'fulfill the requirements' (usually 'complete the application') and 'demands a thorough concentration' (should be 'demands thorough concentration'). While these do not impede communication, refining your word choices would elevate your writing. You have a solid foundation, and focusing on more precise collocations will help you reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are some grammatical inaccuracies. For example, 'I've completed the course... a couple of months ago' should be 'I completed the course... a couple of months ago' (past simple for a finished time). Additionally, 'along with time you gonna find it' is overly informal and grammatically incorrect; 'over time you will find it' would be better. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Increasing your control over verb tenses and avoiding slang-like contractions will improve your accuracy.
