Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all three bullet points: the course details, the recommendation of the university, and the application process. However, the content is underdeveloped. The description of the course is vague, and the advice on how to apply is very brief. Furthermore, the response is 145 words, which is under the 150-word minimum requirement. This negatively impacts the task achievement score as the ideas are not fully extended or supported as required for a higher band. To improve, you should provide more specific details about the engineering course and elaborate on the steps for the application process.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is divided into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and often repetitive (e.g., 'And', 'So'). Some sentences are difficult to follow due to grammatical errors, which disrupts the flow of information. For example, the transition between discussing the university and the application process is abrupt. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' to connect your ideas more logically and smoothly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive, which limits the ability to convey ideas precisely. Phrases like 'too much difficult' and 'too much best advice' are unnatural and indicate a limited range of collocations. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'in this base' instead of 'on this basis' and 'go to abroad' instead of 'go abroad'. To reach a higher band, you need to use a broader range of vocabulary, including less common words and more accurate collocations related to university applications and academic study.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'I hope you and your's family are fine', 'we are applying in same course', and 'we will going together'. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often contain errors in tense or word order. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement, correct verb tenses, and the proper use of articles. Practicing the construction of complex sentences will also help improve your range.
