Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Kamal,

Hopefully, you and your family are well. My apologies for not being in touch, but I am making up for it via this latter, at least I hope so.

I am currently doing MBA in information system management from the international business university. This course basically broken into four semester first two semester are same and into third term you need to select your special subject which you are interested. In the four part you need to do capstone project which is divided into three part.

Firstly, I recommend this University because you get scholarship from the university. Secondly, It is the cheapest university which is provide master degree into the Toronto. You need to go once into the week if you select schedule as per availability. Atmosphere at the college is good and all professor are supportive.

You can apply online using University website. just go to website and fill the form which is need for applying and you can also apply in person at university and the fees you pay in installment.

I am hopping this latter finds you well, Do get back to me whenever you get a chance. Talk to you soon.

Best regards,

Akshay

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter covers all three bullet points: details of the course, reasons for recommending the university, and advice on the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the description of the course structure is a bit repetitive and lacks clarity regarding the content of the MBA. The advice on how to apply is also quite brief. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific details about what you actually study and perhaps offer more personal insight into why the university is a good choice beyond just the cost and scholarship.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each addressing a specific requirement of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In the four part' to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing and minor errors in referencing. For instance, the transition between the course description and the recommendation is a bit abrupt. The use of paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'scholarship', 'installment', and 'supportive'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'latter' instead of 'letter', 'doing MBA' instead of 'doing an MBA', and 'into the Toronto' instead of 'in Toronto'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do show a lack of precision. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that you use the correct articles and prepositions, which are currently a recurring issue in your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('all professor are supportive') and article usage ('the cheapest university which is provide'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and incorrect capitalization. While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to keep the score in the mid-range. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your accuracy.
