Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Shiv,
I am glad that you are choosing abroad for further studies. I remember during college time, You told me that you want to study in Canada and now the dream will come true. I heard from your father that you want to enroll for the same course like me and the same university as well. I think that's a good decision,
This healthcare course includes administrative studies and billing processes. This will be beneficial for us to get admin job at hospitals. this course is in demand as it is not popular yet among youngsters. Additionally, This KSVV university is the best to apply for this course as it provides internship of 2 years and it is paid. This experience will be counted when we apply for permanent residency. One more thing I would advice is about the agency from where I applied. The agency is in Dubai named as Aziz agency. I applied from this agency and got my permit within 10 days.
I hope this information is helpful to you and You can call me on weekends to get more detailed information.
Best wishes,
Pan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: it describes the course, explains why the university is recommended, and provides advice on the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of the course content is brief, and the advice regarding the agency could be more detailed to provide a more helpful response. While the task requirements are met, the depth of information provided is basic, which prevents it from reaching the higher bands.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Additionally' and 'One more thing' helps to link sentences, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, though the paragraphing could be improved by separating the advice about the agency more distinctly from the university recommendation. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the structure supports the reader's understanding of the content.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their message clearly. There are some attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'administrative studies', 'billing processes', and 'permanent residency'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'choosing abroad' instead of 'choosing to study abroad' and 'enroll for' instead of 'enroll in'. The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the intended meaning but lacks the flexibility and precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'the same course like me' (should be 'as me'), 'this course is in demand as it is not popular yet' (awkward phrasing), and 'I would advice' (should be 'advise'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences starting with lowercase letters after a period. These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. More attention to verb forms and sentence structure would improve the accuracy.
