Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Aman,
I hope you're doing well. I am writing to suggest you regarding the diploma that I have pursued. As you were seeking my advise, I would recommend to study a two year Global Business Management Course at Calgary University. It has four semesters and has a cost effective fee. Moreover, this the nearest college from your house which will make your commuting easy.
The reason for my recommendation is that this course will assist you to sharpen your skills and upgrade knowledge that you have previously studied in your Bachelor's of Commerce. Not only will this university provide you the opportunity of Apprentice after your graduation, but also helps you to apply with scholarship. Because, you have achieved your degree with full marks, I felt this is the best option for you.
Apart from this, you can scroll their website for further details. All you have to do is fill your personal information on their original site and they will call you to book an appointment. Then, you have to visit the university in person to deposit the admission fee.
If you have any more questions, I am only one call away. I hope you would consider it.
Best wishes,
Simmi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: it provides details about the Global Business Management course, explains why the university is recommended, and outlines the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, though some points, such as the specific 'Apprentice' opportunity, could have been explained with slightly more detail to fully develop the response. Overall, the task is fulfilled effectively with a clear purpose and consistent tone throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Apart from this', and 'Then' are used to link sentences and paragraphs effectively. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more varied. However, the overall structure is coherent, and the paragraphing is used appropriately to manage the different requirements of the prompt.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their message clearly. There are some instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'suggest you regarding' instead of 'advise you about' and 'Apprentice' used as a noun for a position rather than 'apprenticeship'. The use of 'cost effective' and 'sharpen your skills' shows a good attempt at using more descriptive language. While there are minor errors in word choice, they do not impede communication and the range is sufficient for a friendly letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'this the nearest college' (missing verb 'is'), 'advise' (should be the noun 'advice'), and 'Because, you have achieved' (unnecessary comma). Despite these slips, the meaning remains clear throughout. The control of punctuation is generally good, and the errors are not frequent enough to cause significant difficulty for the reader. The writer shows a reasonable command of sentence construction, though more consistent accuracy would be required for a higher band.
