Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Emma,

I was so happy when I heard that you are thinking to join the same course as I did, because I'll be able to help you out with several things that I wish I could have gotten when I was studying.

To start, I assume that you already know the name of the course, if you don't then; its international business management. This is a two-years programme which includes subject such as project management, finance, international trade and many more. It is a comprehensive course which offers a wide range topics and information related to global business.

Moreover, the reason why I am suggest you to enroll into my university is because it is comparatively cheaper than other institutions. Along with that, our college is equipped with top class equipments for the classes and assignments. Also, you'll get an opportunity to learn from the highly professional professures.

Lastly, to apply for this course, you simple have to visit our university website or book an in-person appointment with the administrative staff to guide you in this process.

Anyways, I hope this helps and I cannot wait to see you soon.

Take care!

Amy

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided details about the International Business Management course, explained why you recommend the university (cost and facilities), and gave clear advice on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and helpful persona throughout. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed to meet the requirements of the task. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more specific detail about the 'professional professors' or the 'top class equipment' to make the recommendation feel more personal and convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To start', 'Moreover', and 'Lastly' to guide the reader through the text. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the flow between some sentences is slightly mechanical. For example, the transition in the second paragraph ('if you don't then; its international business management') is punctuated incorrectly, which disrupts the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring punctuation is accurate would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'comprehensive', 'enroll', and 'administrative staff'. However, there are some noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'professures' (professors) and 'equipments' (equipment is an uncountable noun). Additionally, the phrase 'thinking to join' should be 'thinking of joining'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more attention to collocations and word forms. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise adjectives and idiomatic expressions would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'I am suggest you' (I suggest you), 'two-years programme' (two-year programme), and 'you simple have to' (you simply have to). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly the use of semicolons and commas. While you attempt complex structures, the frequency of these minor errors prevents the writing from being considered highly accurate. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of adverbs will help improve your grammatical control.
