Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Jon,
I hope you are doing well! I am pleased to know that you are thinking about taking the same course as me.
The name of the course is Business Management majoring in Human Resources. I did this course because I wanted to learn about workplace hiring, payroll and relations. This course has provided credibility to my skills furthering my career in the field.
I strongly recommend Fraser University because it is one of the leading management schools in the country providing national and international placements to students through internships and workshops. Moreover, the curriculum and mode of education are advanced with the best teachers who are professionals in their fields. The university also provides scholarships to the students achieving a GPA more than 3.75 in the semester.
You can apply through the University's official website which is Fraseruniversity.com under registration. Furthermore, you can also find information about the course on the website. The university is open from Monday to Friday from 10am to 5pm for new students, the registration department also provides a campus tour and information about the course. If you need any help, let me know!
Best wishes,
Harman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided clear details about your Business Management course, gave a convincing recommendation for Fraser University by highlighting its facilities and industry connections, and offered practical advice on the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a helpful and encouraging persona throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant, ensuring the reader receives a comprehensive response to their request for advice. No parts of the task were omitted, and the information provided is logical and easy to follow.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is well-organized with a clear logical progression. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader navigate the information easily. You used cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'The university also' to link your ideas effectively. The transition between the course description, the recommendation, and the application advice is smooth. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct topics, and the overall structure is coherent, making the letter easy to read and understand from start to finish.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for the context of university studies and career development. Phrases like 'provided credibility to my skills', 'leading management schools', and 'mode of education' show a solid command of language. While the vocabulary is generally accurate and natural, there is room to incorporate more sophisticated or idiomatic expressions to reach the highest band. The word choices are precise enough to convey your meaning clearly without any confusion, and there are no spelling errors that impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
Your grammar is generally strong, with a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You use relative clauses and compound sentences effectively, such as '...providing national and international placements to students through internships and workshops.' There are very few grammatical errors, and the punctuation is used correctly throughout the letter. The majority of your sentences are error-free, which indicates a high level of control. A few minor improvements in phrasing could make the text sound even more natural, but your current level of accuracy is very high.
